AboutGeneral Electric Company, or GE, is an American multinational conglomerate corporation incorporated in Schenectady, New York and headquartered in Fairfield, Connecticut, United States.

The company operates through four segments: Energy, Technology Infrastructure, Capital Finance and Consumer & Industrial. Headed by Chairman & CEO, Jeffrey Immelt, GE is a $42.8 billion conglomerate traded at NYSE, Dow Jones and S&P 500.

HistoryThomas Alva Edison had many business ventures. All of them, financially backed by JP Morgan (Drexel, Morgan & Co.) and the Vanderbilt family. They financed Edison’s research and helped merging those companies under one corporation to form Edison General Electric Company which was incorporated in New York on April 24, 1889. At about the same time leading Thomson-Houston Electric Company, of Lynn, Massachusetts. was emerging. General Electric was formed by the 1892 merger of Edison General Electric Company and Thomson-Houston Electric Company.
