Established in 1864150 years and 5 generations later, Furphy Engineering is still proudly
family owned and operated in Shepparton, Victoria.
Good, Better, Best.
2015: We now have 5,000 square metres of workshop space and 1,500 production man hours per week dedicated to the manufacture of stainless steel tanks & pressure vessels.
Our diversified Engineering site is home to 110 staff and also includes a hot-dip galvanizing plant, laser and plasma cutting, and other component fabrication services.
Manufacturing Site
Our front end engineering team consists of design engineers, draftsmen, a sales team and project managers who are assigned to your contracts to keep you up to date with the progression of your tanks and to ensure that they are delivered on time.

With 26 metres available under the crane hook, we have the ability to fabricate silos indoors in the vertical position, meaning workshop floor space and external weather conditions won’t effect completing your project on time.
High-Bay Tank Fabrication Tower
Our de-coiling strake manufacturing system enables us to roll, cut to length, and plasma weld tank strakes directly from stainless steel coils. This automated process results in a high quality consistency and delivers the product in a cost effective manner.
Automated Strake Manufacture
Keyhole plasma welding is now the established benchmark welding process for food equipment, having been pioneered in tank manufacture in Australia by Furphy Engineering starting in 2006.
Keyhole Plasma Welding
We operate 4 semi-automated plasma welders in our workshop, enabling us to complete all tank longitudinal and circumferential weld seams using this method.
Keyhole Plasma Welding
This welding method enables us to produce a full penetration, single pass, butt weld. This is an X-ray test quality weld of the highest integrity, which gives all full confidence in the finished product.
Keyhole Plasma Welding
Furphy laser welded dimple jackets are a consistent, high quality, yet cost effective means of heat transfer for controlling the temperature of your stored product. Our laser welded dimple can be tailored to suit tank walls, cones and dished ends.
Laser Welded Dimple Plate
We are the only manufacturer in Australia to fabricate dimple plate using laser welded technology, and with a Worksafe registered design to AS1210 Class 3 pressure vessel requirements, you are guaranteed a quality product.
Laser Welded Dimple Plate(Cross Section Sample)
Our dished head press and knuckling equipment gives us the advantage of forming dished ends and cones in-house, giving us more control over design, shape, dimensions and project scheduling.
Dished Head Manufacture
Using automatic polishing machines, we are able to polish the internal weld seams of our tanks to achieve the desired surface roughness (Ra) for the given application. This ensures a sanitary finish to prevent the contamination of your product.(Ra 1.0 = 1 x 10-3 millimetre average surface roughness).

Companies from every state in Australia have trusted us to fabricate and deliver quality tanks to their sites. We’ve transported our tanks to Townsville, QLD and across the Bass Straight into Launceston, TAS.
Transport Solutions
Using remotely operated wall climbing robots, we can access the internal weld surface of your tank without putting a person inside. 100% of the internal surface is surveyed and reports generated to show any defects.
Robotic Tank Inspection
• Superior reporting.• No confined space entry
requirements.• Reduced downtime.• Improved identification and
accuracy of measurement
