Make your first choice...

Congratulations, you’re a girl! (sorry John)

According to Freud, upon your screaming and crying entrance into this wonderful world, you came with a special gift...Select from the options below...

Receive your gift cop out

Your gift: The IdPresent at birth, the Id corresponds with the unconscious, which is the part of the mind that holds ideas, thoughts and memories that we cannot access or bring into our conscious awareness

IDThe Id is comprised of basic drives and instinctual energies...i.e., sex and aggression

Freud conceptualized both these instincts as being powered by a form of internal psychic energy that he called libido.

InfancyNow that you’re here in Freud’s Game of Life, your personality depends on the way in which you expend your sexual energy.

No pressure, but the choice you make here will reflect your lasting feelings about yourself and others. So, choose wisely...

You have chosen...The Oral StageAs an infant, you explore the world through your primary source of gratification...your mouth. Your need for food, touch and comfort is satisfied in this stage. HOWEVER, if you receive too much or too little need satisfaction, this will reflect in later personality development.

Choose your future personality development...

Sorry, you have lost your turn...You are beginning to develop ambivalent feelings toward your mother, who is not always available to meet your id’s demands. You bite to express this ambivalence.

This biting phase in the oral stage is known as “Oral Aggressive”, which will reflect in the development of your personality later on in Freud’s Game of Life.

Emergence of the EgoVery soon after birth, part of the id differentiates into the ego whose function it is to translate the id's internal wishes (experienced in the form of images) into contact with actual objects. This is the secondary process.

Select an option to see how this Ego emerges into your life...

Self from OtherAs a rudimentary ego begins to grow, you’re beginning to distinguish “self” from “not self”

How you are doing this?

Things that give pleasure are experienced as “self”

Things that do not are experienced as “not self” or “other”

You have chosen...The Anal StageAs you’re learning the basics of potty training, you’re learning that the rectum is an important means of self-expression!

This stage is divided into two phases: Expulsion and Retention which will manifest in later psychological development

roughly ages 2 - 3

Choose wisely...

Anal Retentive vs. Anal AggressiveYour parents did a great job! Due to your balanced potty training education, you are neither Anal Retentive (with-holding) nor Anal Aggressive (freely letting go), both of which could manifest later in life as hostile personality traits.

You have developed...Penis EnvyBecause you’re a girl, you neither experience the Oedipus Complex [sexual desire for mom and rival for dad] nor do you experience Castration Anxiety [identify w/ dad for fear of castration]

You have developed Penis Envy!

Unfortunately, this comes with repercussions. You must choose from the following consequences of Penis Envy

Underdeveloped Super-Ego

Narcissism and Inferiority

Resent mom,Love dad

Congratulations...you got all 3!First, when you discover you don’t have a penis...you realize your mom doesn’t either. You develop resentment towards her and desire to have your dad’s baby

Second, because you don’t have the motivation of castration anxiety and losing your penis, your super ego is less developed

Third, according to Freud, you remain narcissistic and display inferior character traits
