What are the most important considerations an employer should have when planning these types of projects?

• After providing details of work which needs to be done, freelancer should provide a prototype of the solution which includes details of what the freelancer is planning to provide.

• Employer needs to check the pre-solution statement thoroughly before agreeing to work with the freelancer.

What are some guidelines and/or best practices, which will ensure project success?

• The employer needs to provide a list of deliverables and an effective timeline.

• The employer also needs to explain his needs in clear detail, otherwise the freelancer might work in the wrong direction.

• If the employer is new to outsourcing or in database administration, he needs to trust the freelancer on the basis of his feed backs and reviews.

What are the most common risks involved with outsourcing projects related to your area of expertise?

• Sometimes, the employer is not able to specify what he wants.

• The employer needs to provide user requirement documents properly.

What are common milestones or project phases in this area of outsourced work?

• The employer should create an initial milestone while awarding the project.

• In the database development area, there are some phases:– user requirement collection, – requirement analysis, – design database (ERD, DFD etc), – physical database creation, – data population and – data retrieval. Each stage needs its own effort and can be used separately. Which

means the employer needs to create milestone for each stage.

• Unclear user requirements• Lack of technical skills of Employer• Lack of moulding tendency

• He needs to be an expert in the field• Lack of understanding requirements • Sometimes even expert freelancers fail to understand the

impact of any changes made to the database because the freelancer has not worked on the project from the beginning.

• An employer should know what a pre-solution statement is and how to ask for one from a freelancer.
