In Los Angeles, a study of a 15-block area estimates that drivers circling for parking cause 950,000 excess vehicle miles per year. This

translates to 47,000 gallons in wasted gas and 730 tons of carbon dioxide greenhouse gas.

Parking and traffic

New parking dynamics

1) Identify available parking spots to reduce traffic

2) Provide optimal route to parking spots avoiding congested arteries

3) Inform police of violators to reduce patrolling time and increase revenue

4) Dynamic price setting to control the flow of traffic Lower pricing a few blocks out of peak traffic areas Lower during off peak hours Increase during peak times (lunch/dinner rush)

5) Introduce shorter (i.e., 30 minutes/1 hour) time limits in key

retail areas to increase turnover

innovation in the last 75 years
