Oseola McCarty

Oseola McCarty was a local washerwoman in Hattiesburg, Mississippi who is known for being the most famous benefactor of The University of Southern Mississippi.

McCarty’s great deeds came into limelight after it was announced in July 1995 that she had established a trust through which, at her death, a portion of her life’s savings would be left to the university to provide scholarships for deserving students in need of financial assistance. The amount was estimated at $150,000, a surprising amount given her menial occupation.

Her story inspires everyone to learn the simple qualities of leadership. Entrepreneurship is not about starting a new business, it is about creating a legacy and an instance for others to follow. She created such wealth amidst the toughest of situations, for the benefit of the following generation.

And Finally…

Did you actually go through a presentation or listen to someone’s experience before you fell in love? A romantic book might have helped in some way, but your decision did not depend on the book’s content. No amount of discussion would help you know ‘love’ more than your falling in it!

My tips can help you get an idea before you start your own venture, but the actual experience is on enactment. So go, and just do it!
