What it delivers…Using a case study approach, Continuity Matters™ brings to life:

• How Crisis Management (CM) and Business Continuity Management (BCM) fit together

• The realities of what can go wrong if an organisation is not adequately prepared

• The benefits of having a rigorous, standardised approach to Crisis and Continuity Management

• The systems and processes which have to be in place for an organisation to be prepared

• Good practices for planning for, responding to and recovering from an incident

With this increased understanding, participants are equipped to:

• Assess their current organisational / departmental / functional readiness

• Identify gaps in their BCM Programme and actions to close those gaps

• Demonstrate a renewed commitment to planning and preparing for an incident in their organisation

Continuity Matters™ is…A scenario-based tool for Business Continuity professionals to use to:

The learning process…In Continuity Matters™, participants follow a fictitious company – Electra – as it responds to and attempts to recover from an incident. Using a paper-based learning process, participants work together in teams of 3-4 to discuss issues, complete activities and identify actions.

1. Introduction to Electra

Participants are given information to enable them to assess Electra’s:• Current performance• Attitude to risk• Attitude to Crisis

Management (CM) and Business Continuity (BC)

2. Disaster strikes!Participants follow Electra’s response to an incident across four phases. It becomes clear that Electra is not adequately prepared to respond to or recover from the incident and participants identify, in each phase, what is going wrong, for example:• Poor communications • Lack of contingency• Damage to reputation• Risk assessments not

completed

3. What might have been…

Rewind…having explored Electra’s poor response, participants now have an opportunity to explore what could have happened if Electra had implemented a rigorous BCM Programme, for example:• Clear accountabilities• Detailed response plans• Effective supply chain

management• Training, exercising and

continuous improvement

4. Review learning points and apply to their organisation

In this part of the learning process, participants are provided with a framework to relate the learning to their organisation and:• Assess current readiness• Identify responsibilities• Identify gaps• Generate actions

How it works…
