Distraction is the new golden working standard
We are more addicted to distraction than we ever were to smoking
Dis-trac-tion
Something that takes your focus away from what you're supposed to be doing
Dis-traction
Is processed first by the reflex brain, as an automated response to the environment and often leads to counterproductive behavior rewarded by instant gratification

There are two types of distractions
1. Involuntary Sensoric Distractions, ISD’s - needs design and rules
2. (Habitual) Weak Moment Distractions, (H)WMD’s - needs design and training
WMD’s are attention killers: off-topic-easy-(non)work during a task
Weak Moment Distractions
*
*
Giving in to e-mail or notifications: checking and replying, eavesdropping, shallow Q&A, answer phone calls
ISD’s are unwanted sensoric and mental input*
Involuntary Sensoric Distractions*
We are able to control what we see, but not what we hear
Which makes noise the number one ISD problem
Involuntary Sensoric Distractions*

ISD’s needs Acoustical and Visual privacy solutions
Fixing the acoustics first, than the space and mind
Having individual focus first is business excellence
Focus first
1. Improved cognition: logic, problem solving, creative ability 2. Improved effectiveness: faster, less mistakes, finishing tasks easier3. Improved mental and physical health: less stress, more worker happiness and satisfaction, more energy
Focus as top priority should be the new golden working standardWith habitual or environmental distractions minimized
