● Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Natural Gas are used widely in several appliances for domestic and industrial purposes.

● In UAE, we rely on both the types of gases to meet our energy needs. But the fact is that LPG is the prominent Dubai gas, used by millions of people as cooking gas, fuel gas—Autogas, refrigerant gas and so forth.

What is LPG?

● Liquefied Petroleum Gas (also referred as Liquid Petroleum Gas or LP Gas) is a mixture of hydrocarbon consisting mainly of Propane (C3H8) and Butane (C4H10) stored in a liquid state. LPG is a by-product of the natural gas processing and oil/petroleum refining, made entirely from fossil fuel sources.

● The gas is the most commonly used fuel for cooking, heating and fueling

vehicles. It is also used as a refrigerant gas and aerosol propellant gas for perfumes. The fact that LPG is safe, cost-efficient and portable makes it the most preferred gas for offering Industrial Gas solutions.

What is Natural Gas?

● Natural Gas is also a mixture of hydrocarbon consisting mainly of Methane (CH4) and a combination of higher alkanes and carbon dioxide, nitrogen, hydrogen sulfide, or helium in small concentration. Alike LPG, natural gas is derived from the fossil sources.

● Natural gas is used for cooking, heating, generating electricity and running applications like water heaters. Natural Gas Liquid (NGL) is a component of natural gas, catered for Liquid Gas Services. Natural gas is a highly valued gas due to its high combustibility backed by the ease of utilization.

LPG Natural gas

● The Propane in LPG and Methane in Natural Gas are two different chemical compound: Propane -C3H8. Methane - CH4

● LPG has higher calorific value than natural gas. LPG has a typical calorific value of 93.2MJ/m3

while natural gas has a lower calorific value of 38.7MJ/m3.

● LPG can be compressed and stored/ transported in cylinders or canister. For the same, it has become the number one choice of industrial gas distributors for transporting bulk industrial gases.

● Natural gas (Methane) is lighter than air while LPG is heavier than air.

● For a proper combustion to take place, LPG needs a gas ratio of 25:1 while natural gas requires a ratio of 10:1

● Though natural gas and LPG are used for combustion, their appliances work at different pressures.
