Difference Between Interior &
Exterior Paints
Both the interior and exterior paints look similar, however, their components are quite different. The 4 main components of paint are pigments, resins,
additives and solvents.
The pigment is the real shade of the paint while the resin is a natural substance that clings it to the surface. Resins can be acrylic, epoxy or silicone.
The additives are chemical substances that protect the surface against UV rays, weather conditions, fungal growth, mildew etc. Moreover, additives
make the paint simple to apply and simple to clean.
Solvents are components that make the paints wet. The 2 types of solvents include water and mineral
spirits. In water-based paints, as the name suggests the solvent is water. Whereas in oil-based paints,
the solvent is mineral spirit.
QUANTITY OF PIGMENTSWith regards to pigments, exterior paints contain more shades than interior paints.
TYPES OF RESINSRigid resins are utilized in interior paints while flexible ones are utilized in exterior paints.
