Diabetes is a long-term chronic condition in which the body loses its ability to control the level of glucose in the blood. It usually occurs in adults, but also appears in younger people and even children.

Type 1 diabetes:Occurs when the part of the pancreas that makes insulin is destroyed by that person’s own immune system.

Type 2 diabetes:Body makes insulin, but either the insulin does not work in that person’s body as it should, or they do not make enough insulin to process glucose.
