5 Things wrong(with tech sales presentations)
Decks are not books
• Don’t load up the screen with bullets. Well crafted sentences in a report or email would be easier to understand and to digest.
Complex graphics without stories
• Every complicated graphic on screen needs a memorable story from the speaker (you)
• Even a story that takes longer to tell than the graphic takes to understand, it’s better. Stories are listened to, and remembered.
On-Screen Vomit
• Leave out a LOT, even in very technical decks. Telling your company’s story, or the story of this feature or that component, isn’t even the slide’s job. It’s yours.
Deck as leader
• Your deck is there to support you. Stop behaving as if the deck is the authority, and you are there to support it. We are people talking to people.
Deck cell
• Move. Use the whiteboard. Have an audience member use the whiteboard. Break out of the next-slide-please prison.
Bonus...
• Join Toastmasters. Seriously. This advice is gold, you get it today for free.
