The report – in brief

The report analyses the Polish market for data processing services, based upon information collected during a direct audit carried out at 15 data centres in Poland. As a result, a key element of the publication is a section containing detailed profiles of the largest commercial service providers. The report also describes important market trends and catalogues the types of services provided by the operators. It lists key investments completed by service providers in 2012, as well as plans to modernise and construct new facilities in the coming years. It analyses price levels, demand for services, and the profiles of clients that use the services provided at Polish data processing centres. The report also includes short term (1-2 year) and medium term (3-4 year) development forecasts (1-2 years) for the market, and a separate section that details possible scenarios involving energy price changes for industrial clients in Poland (a main cost component for data centres) depending upon various macroeconomic and regulatory assumptions.

Author’s commentary

The most recent forecasts presented by Cisco suggest that, by 2020, the number of devices connected to the Internet will grow tenfold, to around 50 billion. Similarly, the number of servers – both physical and virtual – is expected to rise, and the amount of information to be managed will increase even more rapidly. Cisco also predicts that the total size of package transmission in data processing centres will quadruple, reaching the level of 6.6 zettabytes by 2016. Cloud processing will become the fastest developing element of the traffic generated in data centres.
