The Federal Motor Carrier Administration (FMCSA) is preparing to launch the Comprehensive Safety Administration 2010 (CSA 2010), a new safety inspection program designed to improve road safety by increasing FMCSA efficiency in collecting and utilizing inspection data to identify high-risk carriers and drivers. 2. How will the FMCSA launch of CSA 2010 affect the carrier.
CSA 2010 is a revised enforcement policy to identify potentially unsafe drivers and carriers before a crash occurs.
CSA 2010 uses a revised Safety Measurement System (SMS) to score the carrier for 24 months of performance data.
SMS will consider all safety-based roadside inspection violations and crashes, not just out-of-service.
70 to 80 percent of these stats were never on the SafeStat scores.

BASIC score is figured by combining recency with severity.
More recent violations score heavier.
Severity weight is based on statistical likelihood of causing a crash.
SMS will convert BASICs into percentiles based on peer groups.
Uses Power Units, may revise to Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMTs) if data is available.

Educate your drivers.Make sure they understand how CSA 2010 will affect them.
Reward good driving.Now, more than ever, it is important to reward safe drivers and improve morale by showing appreciation where its deserved.

Maintain all copies of roadside inspection reports, including clean inspections.
Be accurate and detailed when challenging through DataQs.
