Program Description

A knowledgeable and capable workforce is critical for any company as well as the State. Coaching is perhaps the most effective means of development. Learn what makes coaching effective, the difference between coaching towards a solution and coaching the method, and learn standard work that anyone can use to improve their coaching conversations.

Why This Matters

For Michigan

For the companies remaining, people must innovate their way out of trouble.

Companies seeking relocation or new locations look at workforce quality

Companies getting tax credits best leverage that through training grants

Michigan has a below-average reputation for its workforce

For Your Company

Technology, assets, products, and positioning can all be copied – a capable workforce cannot (at least not quickly)

Innovation is key, and is a product of problem solving and learning

Many companies that shrunk lost intellectual capital that must be rebuilt

Coaching Defined

“Telling is an act. Coaching is making a personal investment in that person you are coaching. It shows you are committed to their success.”

--Winston Churchill

“Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them.”

--John Whitmore
