Entrepreneurship as growth engine
Entrepreneurship is increasingly being examined as the engine of new growth around the world
Every economy in the world has four major resources: Land, Labor, Capital and Entrepreneurship
Without support of small enterprises, emerging economies will continue to lag behind developed world
To flourish, entrepreneurs need an economic environment that encourages private property and free markets
Legislators and other leaders who create economic policies should strive to encourage the innovation and risk taking of entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurship as change agent
40 % of the world's population is under 20 years of age
Over 1 billion people are between the ages of 15 and 25
As enablers of ICT-facilitated development and as social entrepreneurs who want to make a difference in the world, empowered youth can be a potent force for change
To unleash youth potential in creating change for themselves and for society, a multiple focus on ICT, learning and entrepreneurial skills development is required

Many examples of successful use of ICT in developing countries
Challenges around sustainability
Enable poor to exploit technology to solve top problems
People solve problems, not technology
Critical to empower citizens and engage in “public-private-people partnerships”

Example of ICT Approaches: “Bottom-up“ Getting Kenya Connected
Kangundo: small town of 10,000 in Kenya Cash-strapped 60% unemployment Youth crime 35 miles away from Nairobi but poor road
conditions make travel prohibitive
Blossom World Provide ready source of vital information to
Kenyans in education, vocational training, health knowledge, and government services
First of six pilot "pasha centers" 3,500 centers across Kenya over 3 years
“Pasha" means "to inform" in Swahili
