Captive Media is a world first. Where you’d least expect it
In the image on this page, one of the white objects is a standard porcelain urinal
bowl, as found in around 90% of public washrooms in the UK.
The other is a revolutionary interactive media system, with an HD screen capable
of displaying any digital media to the person standing before it.
That person is – well – a captive audience, who once had nothing to look at but the
wall. And the length of this ‘audience’, according to research published in the UK,
is around 55 seconds – equivalent to two TV advertising spots.
But that isn't the clever part.
The person watching the screen can control what he sees on it.
Not by touching it. But by directing his stream left or right. So he can literally play video games!

Four years in development, Captive Media is now available to venues in the UK, and, from the second half of 2012, internationally.
Simple to install to your Venue
The system does not require you to remodel your entire washroom. As long as you have space above your existing urinal bowls, Captive Media’s screens are ‘retrofittable’; meaning they require no modification to existing plumbing or bowls. They can simply be added – in most cases in a single morning. It’s like hanging a flat screen TV on the wall at home. And they’re already compatible with 90% of urinals in the UK.
Clean lined and clean living
In operation, the units are entirely contactless, with no physical connection to the bowls below, using ingenious sensing technology to detect the position of the stream. So the user never needs to touch anything – and has something to aim at! Which means the units require, in the words of our customers “minimal cleaning, minimal hassle”.

Captive Media units look beautiful – so much so that New Design Magazine featured them as a case study. They give any washroom a real lift – which everybody likes – transforming the look and giving the space a modern, high tech feel.
Extremely Rugged
They are also built to last: Industrial PC, LCD screen and Captive Media-patented ‘stream-sensor’ technology are all packed on board an aluminium chassis, encased behind 6mm toughened glass and an acrylic capped ABS casing. They are completely water proof and humidity resistant.
Captive Media installs the units and provides 24 hour help desk support and next day replacement (though it’s been quiet so far)

When a user approaches, Captive Media flips into gaming mode, using patented technology to detect not only his presence … but the direction of the stream. Algorithms then allow the user to do something simple, but VERY engaging – controlling the screen just by aiming left or right!

our unique… user interface! And we have learned to make games that are100% intuitive. Guys never read instructions anyway.
All games last as long as you do (about 55 seconds for a male in the UK, in case you were wondering).

As the owner of a Captive Media system, you can really start to engage your audience – whether to promote special offers, share news or encourage people to join in elsewhere.
Under the bonnet of the sleek units is a powerful digital signage system, capable of playing any media at any time: photos, posters, or movies
And washrooms turns out to have some real advantages. Most messages try to grab people’s attention when they are doing something else – going from A to B, driving, working, reading or waiting (& on a mobile!). Most are ignored, while others are seen, but detract from the experience … or just intrude. In the washroom people are delighted to have something to occupy them (it’s one of a very few mobile-free zones!) So, they are around four times more likely to remember messages there than on a poster elsewhere.

Rates
A monthly service fee covers software licensing, PTV and game updates, remote monitoring & service. Screens are warranted for 1 year, extendable up to 3 years.
Guests have unlimited use of our web-based score-sharing service.
Installation is simple and we will provide remote support and online training videos. It is your responsibility to have the units installed.
Advertising One 10-second advertising slot is permanently allocated for your in-house use. The others are available for sale by Captive Media to mutually agreed 3rd parties, with various revenue sharing options available.
Ad slots can also be acquired for a monthly fee, if you prefer to retain all ad revenues.
An online portal is available for you to upload fresh content and promotions.
