Why do people choose an MBA?...

…for better career, different career, more money…

…my official answer – to learn the models that teach us how to do business…

…but I realized, business schools can’t teach you business…

…why????

…because business schools are research & exams…

…and business is practice and action…

…business schools teach you theories that are defined, stable, direct, two-dimensional…

…but the world is complex, unstable, ambiguous, changing, wicked…

…so how can you apply defined theories to undefined real life?...

…besides, real life deals with people, and people are unpredictable. No formula works!...

…so there is a growing disconnect between what MBAs are taught and what employers need them to know!..

…so how do we move forward?...

…business schools should be highly practical! Students learn by doing…

…for now, business schools start with practical group work and minimal lecture time…

…students should practice critical thinking to solve complex problems…

…and they should learn how to reflect…

…you can’t learn by hearing. You learn by doing, and learning from experience…

…so business students take note! Business schools can’t teach you business…

…but you can teach yourself!
