Business Communication TrendsMy daily activities can include extensive communication, whether it is business or

pleasure. There is usually no problem reaching a couple thousand text messages in a month.

The phones these days allow you to stay connected directly to the internet at all times, so

messaging on Facebook and Twitter, as well as Gmail and Yahoo, is just a touch away and you

receive the replies instantly.

I have two jobs right now. I work at Eye Trends, a local optometrist office, verifying

insurance and helping patients get their visit and contacts or glasses paid for. This mostly

consists of use of the office telephone and the company email. I am on the phone (automated

systems) approximately 80 percent of the day while the other 20 percent of my time is spent

emailing the billing department or using walkie talkies up in front of the office helping patients

with their appointment. In my other job, I maintain a company website for a family member and

this consists mostly of emails back and forth between the owner and manager of the company.

Between both positions, I roughly send close to a thousand emails a month. I do not send many

for personal use, but as far as Facebook messages, probably less than half of that.

When it comes to managing all of this work, none of it would be possible if it was not for

business communication. Being able to communicate so easily makes life simpler. I have

noticed that every time a new gadget comes out like, for instance, the smart phone, after a while

of using it I start wondering how I ever made it in this life without it.

My current workplace is probably just like every other up and coming small business.

The owners are definitely trying to stay on top of the latest technology. They just bought new

desktop computers to replace the older and outdated models and they are currently implementing

new software for patient information. The new system will go along with the EMR (electronic

medical records) system. Eventually we will be completely paperless, having touchscreen

computers in patient exam rooms, and tablets that we input the information on. In addition, as

far as eye contacts, an electronic dispensing system keeps inventory that they are trying to buy.

When it comes to the optical (glasses) side of the business, they always have the latest

technology. Some new electronic glasses charge nightly, that switch from regular glasses to

reading glasses, in other words, from far-sighted to near-sighted and back again at the push of a

button because many older people are both. Eye Trends also tries to be culturally diverse while

only hiring on experience and education only. They also are quite up to date on their data

security and privacy business.
