Business Awareness

Management is not difficult on itself but it becomes hard as often organizational issues take the lead.

If you think about it why management was or is needed you will come to the role of the professional

who normally knows what to do. So why do you need management?

The reason is that one professional is not enough to run the business. Companies exist because of a

single professional doesn't want to remain independent, cannot be independent or has other reasons

to join an organization. The advantage of an organization is that it can offer (business) continuity and

offer the required investments.

But then the problem starts: professionals need to think about transfer knowledge (documenting),

they need to inform others (attend meetings) they need to leave messages, plan work, schedule

meetings, etc. Before you know it the professionals have to run a parallel business to cope with their

work. And in this setting the manager is there to measure the output of the professional and the team.

Business awareness is the first and most important step in organizing activities. It starts with the

individual professional. Normally this is not a problem as - again - the professional knows what to do.

But the organization around him is continuously interfering. This can be for the right or wrong

reasons. In times like these with crisis it is reasonable that the organization is demanding more from

their employees, interfering with activities that are unplanned, new, and not coherent. It is a sign that

the business is lost and the organization is searching for answers and solutions. But this is not the

way it should be. Under normal circumstances the business (focus) should dominate and

organizational activities follow as logical consequences.

But even then it often is the case that the organization leads its own life and the role of the manager

is to get the attention (back) to the business. Business awareness is the first step in organizing

activities.

Business management starts with the performance indicators, which are assigned to professionals.

But this is the easy part. Then comes a sequence of events, organizational activities and passing of

time where these indicators are no longer in focus and the organization gets in a negative spiral. The

intervention needed then is to get the focus back and that starts with the business awareness. Increase Website Traffic
