Booktrust

>Booktrust is an independent national charity that encourages people of all ages and cultures to discover and enjoy reading.

>Booktrust is responsible for a number of national reading promotions, literary prizes and creative reading projects aimed at encouraging readers to discover and enjoy books.

The reader is at the heart of everything we do.

The Bookstart Programme

The Bookstart programme started as one of the earliest examples of integrated services for children and families

Bookstart has become a world first, providing universal access to two million families each year.

Bookstart impacts upon the five key outcomes of Every Child Matters, Birth to Three Matters and the Early Learning Goals of the Foundation Stage Curriculum

Bookstart Packs

Bookstart for babies: Aims to encourage parents/carers to share

books with babies from the earliest age

Bookstart+ for toddlers: Aims to boost a child’s language building & listening skills with fun and engaging books & materials

Treasure Chest for 3 year olds: Builds on BS+ and reinforces the

importance of stories, songs and rhymes in building language skills.

Bookstart and the Booksellers Association

A £1 book token is included in Bookstart+ and My Bookstart Treasure Chest packs.

More than 1,200 booksellers are taking part and we hope that this number will increase

A Book in Every Stocking

We're aiming to create special point of sale materials for independent

bookshops in the hope that this will encourage families to buy more books as Christmas presents.

>Booktime promotes reading for pleasure by giving the gift of a book pack to reception age children across the UK.

>Last autumn, Booktrust launched an exciting new national programme aimed at encouraging Year 7 children to read for pleasure.

>Supported by DCSF, Booked Up enabled every 11 year old in England to choose a free book from a list of 12 specially selected titles.

The Letterbox Club

This is a programme aimed at improving the educational outlook for children aged 7-11 in foster families.

The children are provided with a parcel of books, maths activities and stationery once every month for six months.
