Types Of Biometrics

There are two types of biometrics: 1. Behavioral biometrics: This types of

biometrics are used for identification purpose. This type verification is determined by signature, keystrokes, voice as identification

2. Physical biometrics: This type of biometrics compares two finger prints to determine identification. This method is commonly used in criminal identifications.

Working of Biometric Devices

• Biometrics systems work by recording and comparing biometric characteristics.

• Characteristics are recorded as images.

• It is an extract identifying feature from the sample and encodes these features in a form that accelerate storage and comparison.

• When an individual first uses a biometric system, their identifying features are enrolled as a reference for future.

• Hand scanner: This device identifies an individual by the palm of their hand.

•Face scanner: This device is used to identify an individual by taking measurements of the person’s face. E.g., width of nose, eyes, chin, distance between eyes etc.

• Iris/ retina scanner: iris/ retina scanner is used to identify a person by scanning their iris or retina of their eye.

• Finger scanner: unlike the hand scanner, this device detects an individual via finger prints. It is a secured and cheap method to identify an individual.
