Presentation of the project work delivered by the development projects at NAVCA. This was part of the NAVCA Annual Conference in Nottingham on 16 17 September 2008. The projects were set around the real services that fictional "Sherwood CVS" could utilise.

Local Commissioning and Procurement Unit

Aims to increase local infrastructure organisations’ capacity to:

• Influence commissioning and procurement policies at a local level.

• Influence commissioning and procurement practices at a local level.

• Provide support to local voluntary and community organisations so that they can tender for public service delivery .

• Provide support to local voluntary and community organisations so that they can be involved in the commissioning of public services.

Improving Local Partnerships Unit

The NAVCA ILP team aims to provide local third sector and infrastructure organisations with the skills, knowledge and understanding to be confident, inclusive and effective representatives of the local third sector in Local Area Agreements and other public partnerships.

Sports Partnership

The Sport Partnership Project aims to:

"Embed a culture of collaboration between sport and LIOs, so sports clubs can access

services from LIOs and improve their effectiveness and reach"

Regional ICT Champions• The aim of the Champions is to ensure that local third sector

organisations have access to high quality advice and support on ICT. They:

– Signpost to local providers of ICT advice, support and services and impartial source of advice on new technology

– Provide sample ICT policies and strategies

– Critical friend over website / computer equipment / software procurement quotes and tenders

– Help establish new ICT providers where recognised gaps in coverage exist

– Co-ordinate regional and local ICT groups

– Deliver training to development workers

NAVCA Quality Award

• The Award helps NAVCA member organisations show how they are making a difference within the local third sector.

• Set against 5 performance standards covering core infrastructure services.

• The Award includes all the key areas of work a local infrastructure organisation undertakes and identifies what it is achieving.

Learning and Development

• The NAVCA learning offer includes:

– SKiLD- highly regarded learning opportunities, resources, career progression and networking support for local networks for development workers

– Regular induction days for new Chief Officers

– Bespoke learning days for LIOs

– Support with learning and development strategies

– Ad hoc learning opportunities including Action Learning sets, influencing skills, tendering and partnerships to deliver outcomes training and Full Cost Recovery training

Every Child Matters

• The NAVCA Every Child Matters project aims to support Local Infrastructure Organisations to engage with the Every Child Matters agenda by:

– Improving and strengthening involvement of LIOs in Children's Trusts.

– Providing information, resources and networking opportunities.

– Providing enquiry service for members.

Reducing Adult Re-offending Project

• NAVCA’s new Development Advisor will be working with Clinks and other partners in supporting offenders and their families.

• This post has been established to enable LIOs to be more effective in supporting local third sector groups working with offenders and their families by:

– providing information, resources & learning and networking opportunities for key staff in LIOs, regional and sub-regional bodies.

– raising awareness of the support and services available from LIOs to local third sector groups.

– working in collaboration with relevant partners to strengthen volunteering work with offenders.

‘Empowering the Voluntary Sector’ project

• The NAVCA and Public Law Project ‘Empowering the Voluntary Sector’ project aims to assist and support voluntary sector organisations to challenge bad decisions made by public bodies, using the principles of public law.

• The project delivers this aim through three outputs; training, free legal advice and newsletters
