What are Athletic Community Career Fairs?

• The Corporate Playbook's Athletic Community Career Fairs are excellent opportunities for student-athletes, athletic alumni, business leaders and hiring companies to connect.

• Employers leverage Athletic Community Career Fairs to increase awareness of their companies, distribute information and identify potential candidates for full-time, part-time and internship/co-op positions.

• During our Athletic Community Career Fairs, each organization is assigned booth space for displaying promotional material and company information, while athletes are given the chance to network and learn more about each organization.

Who attends these Career Fairs?

The Corporate Playbook's Athletic Community Career Fairs are available to all students who participate in any university sanctioned athletic event (scholarship/non-scholarship athletes, spirit groups club sports, athletic trainers, equipment managers and coaches). We also highly encourage recent alumni who currently live within the region to be a part of these events in order to network and provide mentorship opportunities.

Where are these Career Fairs held?

The Corporate Playbook's Athletic Community Career Fairs are held at an on-campus venue chosen by the university. The location should accommodate up to 25 companies (with booth space), as well as 100+ athlete participants. We encourage an area that is well known and provides easily accessible parking.

When do the Career Fairs Take Place?

The Corporate Playbook Athletic Community Career Fairs are conducted in both Fall and Spring semesters. We typically host events in October- November and March-April. These events will take place during a weeknight and last 2 hours in duration, typically from 7-9 pm. Research shows, having a 2 hour fair during a weeknight will help ensure the most athletic participants, due to less scheduling conflict.

What is the cost of an Athlete Career Fair?

There is no cost to the student athletes, alumni or the university to have The Corporate Playbook host this event on your campus. All expenses are covered through sponsorships of partnering companies.

• The timing of most all-campus career fairs do not fit into the asynchronous schedules of student-athletes or members of the athletic community.

• The companies attending The Corporate Playbook Athlete Career Fairs understand the value of having a former student-athlete on their staff and believe the attributes are transferable to their business.

• Companies in attendance are educated on the employment of current student-athletes and NCAA regulations that must be followed.

• Creates a more conducive environment for student athletes to network with athletic alumni and interact with companies.

Why an Athlete Career Fair Instead of an All Campus Career Fair?

Page 6: Athletic Community Career Fairs

For those student-athletes who are desiring an internship, co-op, or part time position at our career fairs and employers who consequently employ them. The following NCAA rules must be followed:

• The student-athlete may not receive any remuneration for the value or utility that the student-athlete may have for the employer because of the publicity, reputation, fame or personal following he or she has obtained because of athletics ability;

• The student-athlete is to be compensated only for work actually performed;

• The student-athlete is to be compensated at a rate commensurate with the going rate in that locality for similar services;

• The employer and student-athlete will make available for review and inspection by an authorized representative at the NCAA, Conference, or University level copies of all documents, earnings statements and other records related to the employment.

What about current student-athletes seeking internships and summer

employment?

• "The Corporate Playbook has allowed us to move from graduation rates to placement rates with our student-athletes. Get a degree and get a job is part of the road map we put in front of our student-athletes. The career fairs The Corporate Playbook have created are second to none for student-athletes nationally. We had 30 top Fortune 1000 companies on our campus and we believe there isn’t a better resource available.” Julie Hermann, Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director/SWA. , University of Louisville Athletics

• "Many thanks for taking the time to visit with us and sharing The Corporate Playbook. It looks and sounds as if there are several exciting aspects of your program that will continue to benefit our student athletes and I look forward to seeing more in the future. The career fairs are great, Thanks again!” Joseph A. Quinlan Jr., Director of Athletic and Recreational Services, Seton Hall University

• We go to a lot of generic and occupational specific job fairs throughout the year and your student athlete career fair and event was one of the best ones we have attended! I thought the student-athletes were very well prepared, presentable and were very specific with their interests. We were glad to be a part of it and look forward to attending more in the future. Ben Idle, Sr. Workforce Development Consultant, HR (Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare)

• "The career fair was great! The most beneficial aspect was the intimacy and the small group size. At larger events it is difficult to make connections on a personal or one-on-one level with company reps. The size of an event such as this one also made it possible to network with others that have athletic backgrounds and openly exchange job-hunting ideas and experiences. I have no negative feedback to offer. You guys at The Corporate Playbook are doing an awesome job! Many thanks." Michael Jotautas, LSU Swimming

• I just wanted to send you a little email letting you know how much I appreciate all the work you did on the career fair, and I cannot express how much help your program is, and is going to be, with helping NCAA athlete's be successful in starting their careers. It was a great way for me to get experience with talking to employers and a perfect opportunity to network and get my resume out to many different hiring companies. I enjoyed meeting and getting to talk with each of you last night and really appreciate all the insight you gave me on getting myself out in the working world! The work that this program does will benefit many athletes to come all over the nation and that to me is so exciting! Thanks again and I look forward to seeing you soon! Claire Seiffert, Auburn University Gymnastics

• We were invited to attend the Yale University student athlete career fair by The Corporate Playbook and we definitely found it worth our time! At least 15 athletes stopped by our booth that would be very competitive in our application process and it was a great venue to get the word out about Teach for America! Thank you Corporate Playbook for your national partnership and supporting our non-profit efforts of bringing quality education to our youth! Karen Manahan-Manager for Non-profit Alliances, Teach for America, New York, NY
