Students of different countries with the guidance of their teachers assemble information and try to know elements of various religions as temples, holy objects, religious feasts, religious way of life, ideas and values.

Examining a common subject and exchanging material the students get to know sides of the religion of others and conceive the variety of expression of religious life.

Particular emphasis is given in the use of modern technology for the achievement of the above objectives.

PreparationPreparation The project was cross-curricular so many teachers of different

subjects could participate. We discussed the subject with the pupils and exchanged ideas. Teachers from partner schools got in contact and agreed on a common

frame of collaboration (contacts, exchange of material, common language, timetable).

Teacher –librarians of both schools collaborated with other teachers (RE, ICT, English) and planned the implementation of the project in each subject.

We checked the availability of the PC lab and the other equipment. Pupils started working. A class blog was created and we posted a first entry with a short

description of the project and a second one, which would guide the pupils as a model for their postings

A wiki was created and the pupils were familiarised to it.

Wiki-Blog : New tools for Wiki-Blog : New tools for collaborationcollaboration

With the Wiki:

We easily created a website (simple user interface, easily add pages, simple navigation structure). The students spent more time developing the content, than trying to figure out how to make the

site do what they want. It allowed the teachers and other students to see the evolution of the pages over time, comment

on it and giving their help. Building and editing documents on the wiki pages strengthened the community within our group,

allowed group members with overlapping or similar ideas to see and collaboratively built on each other’s work.

Considering students’ busy schedules, the wiki was very useful, because it allowed group members to track their research and ideas from anywhere they had internet access, and helped them save time by seeing what others had already done to prepare the final product.

It’s a new skill and students will be well prepared to use it in the future.

With the blog:

All the team members: expressed their opinions on topics they were studying in class. wrote comments, opinions, or questions on daily news items or issues of interest according to

religion and ethics discussed activities they did in class and told what they thought about them.

Some advices…Some advices… Express clearly your expectations to your partner. Make agreements on the students´ communication and the

project’s plan. Keep the project simple. “Dismiss" unreliable partners. The more you know about your partner, the better

understanding, so: the best thing is to meet and talk. Be flexible and ready to change things, if something

doesn’t seem to work for you. Be brave and don’t hesitate to experiment new tools.

If you intend to use a blog: The best way to understand what a blog is, is to make one. Start with a small blog which gradually will get bigger. Take a look in other school or class blogs to see their form

and how teachers use them. Try the characteristics of the blog. You can add text,

pictures, links and media.

Have fun!
