Define animal rights in your

own words. . .

What are animal

rights to you?

TYPES

Summary of the articleThis article was from debate.org, raising a

discussion on the question of whether or not

animals should have rights or not. The main

arguments on each side were that:

- Proposition: humans are animals; therefore

they should have rights

- Opposition: animals don’t contribute to

society

The author’s opinion

As this is a debate and discussion, there wasn’t

a concise opinion on the subject of animal

cruelty. However, there were more people that

supported the idea of animal rights than not.

(74% for - 26% against as of latest)

Arguments for and against

animal rightsWe are humans = animals; just like

humans

Are living creatures; have feelings

and emotions; deserve to be treated

better

Have the right to be free from abuse

and oppression of humans

Sanctity of life

Have a need to be protected because

they can’t communicate - man’s

responsibility

Animals can’t defend their own freedom

Cannot distinguish between good and bad

How do we know what rights they want?

Would they appreciate them?

Animal rights = everyone becomes

vegetarian

The earth and food cycle are a survival

game

Animals make no contribution to society

Have not earned their rights

‘ANIMALS DO NOT

CONTRIBUTE TO

OUR SOCIETY!’

What is animal cruelty, and how

does it affect the rights of animals?

Animal cruelty means inflicting pain and

suffering towards any mammal, bird, reptile,

amphibian, fish or any other wild or term

animal. This is an offence under the prevention

of cruelty to animals ordinance Cap. 169.

Ethical Farms

Ethical farms are farms which focus

on minimizing the discomfort that

animals go through in factory farms.

Ethical farms are free range, and

provide pain suppressors to lessen

the pain when the animals are

slaughtered.

These farms must be certified by

the ‘Certified Humane’ organization.

What is the difference, or is there?...

Animal cruelty/ dog fighting?

Animal cruelty/ bull fighting?

Animal cruelty/ cock fighting?

Animal cruelty/ puppy mills?

Dog fighting

Dogs are breed to live off of

violence, aggression and

hate. After being trained with

aggression, they are then put

against another dog in a pit,

this goes on until one dog is

severely injured or usually

dies.

Cockfighting

Those who usually are in charge of the cocks,

typically attach a razor to the left leg of both

cocks and allow them to fight until death.

Our

Opinions:

Animal Cruelty vs Animal

Rights

Animal Cruelty

● Harming animals

● Abusing against

their will

Animal rights

● Free from

exploitation from

humans

● Have freedom in

life

Just because animals

don’t have rights,

doesn’t mean that we

can treat them cruelly.
