WHY FRENCH TECH ?

French Tech is a collective brand rolled out by the French government in 2014.

French Tech's aims are to :

 Make Tech champions blossom,

 Promote French know-how abroad,

 Attract international investors.

To enhance its action, the government has launched a call for projects to assign labels to the regions.

The regions that are awarded labels, like Aix-Marseille since November 2014, agree to do everything to

encourage growth in the ecosystem and set up the necessary tools to grow startups from the idea stage to

the tech champion stage.

PUBLIC STARTUP ACCELERATORS

A SUCESSFUL ECOSYSTEM

Marseille Innovation is a European Business

Innovation Center created in 1996 at the

Château - Gombert Science Park. Currently, it

boasts three incubators and business service

centers to host and support businesses in the

startup stage in the information and

communications technology industries and

the audiovisual, multimedia, optics and

photonics industries and the engineering

sciences in general.

The Incubateur national

Multimédia Belle de Mai focuses

on supporting technology startups

arising from or in connection with

public research and the French

national education system only in

the sciences and the information

and communication technologies

industries. 20 startups are being

incubated.

The Provence European Business

Innovation Center is a public accelerator

that provides orientation and support to

technology startups in the first stage of

their emergence and development. Its

goal is to stimulate the competitiveness of

technology startups in France, Europe and

the entire world.

Impulse, an interuniversity

incubator, is geared toward

any individual or legal entity

that has a technological

project that uses public

research and has its roots in

or is related to science or

technology. 20 startups are

being incubated.

Public or semi-public accelerators that support specific industries of excellence.

Two incubators/accelerators in the Pays

d'Aix : Meyreuil focuses primarily on

electronics, software, optics and photonics.

Pertuis focuses on renewable energy,

sustainable development and more. Both

also host technology projects in other

industries (aeronautics, software,

biotechnology, transit/vehicles, urban

planning and more) in connection with high

tech clusters of the region. The two

incubators /accelerators welcomes about

20 startups. All told, it is able to host

up approximately 120

startups. 80% of them are

digital technology industry

businesses.

HIGH TECH CLUSTERS

A SUCESSFUL ECOSYSTEM

10

The SCS world competitiveness cluster has a

genuine ambition : to become the inevitable actor

and recognized in the field of the Communicating

Solutions Made safe by covering the whole of the

chain of value of the trades of the ICT, Silicon to the

Uses : Microelectronics – Telecommunications -

Software.

It will do this based on focused, differentiating

Smart Areas Specialisation (SSAs) : contactless

technology; networks, M2M & mobile

services, digital security & identities.

The cluster Capenergies (energies that do

not produce greenhouse gases) consists

of 400 manufacturers and research and

training institutes in the Provence-Alpes-

Côte d'Azur, Corsica, Guadeloupe,

Reunion and Principality of Monaco

regions. Its mission is to federate its

members creating a solid ecosystem, a

vector of the economic development and

the competitiveness of the energy sectors.

PRIMI is a cluster consisting of

audiovisual, cinema, animation,

video game, internet and

multimedia professionals.

Eurobiomed is the catalyst of

the health sector. Its provides

resources and initiatives to help

life science companies

(biotechnologies …), to achieve

their business goals and

improve life through

innovations in health.

Multiple regional clusters (energy, digital technologies, microelectronics, data hosting, connected

objects and more).

The OPTITEC cluster brings together

photonics and imaging players and offers

a wide range of skills :

optical microcomponents, processing of

imaging, light source, light detectors,

fiber-optics data, lasers transmission,

eyewear, complex optic instrumentation,

telecommunications, space technology

and medical technology.

The Risk Cluster and Pégase

(aeronautic and spacial) merged in

late 2015 to become the SAFE

Cluster (Security and Aerospace

actors for the Future of the Earth)

consisting of 600 players in

infrastructure security,

environmental surveillance,

industrial risks and border

surveillance. The merger's aim is to

help aerospace and aeronautics to

better prevent and manage risks.

Towards the end of 2008, the French National RFID Center was created by the

French Ministry of Economy, Finance and Employment (MINEFE) to help in the

development of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology and to increase

its usage in order to help both “RFID solutions suppliers” (creators, material

manufacturers, integrators, legal advisers etc.) and “users” (retailing, aeronautics

and electronic business, SME, small businesses, associations , etc .).

Aim : to encourage networking, solutions deployment and partnerships between providers, users, research

laboratories and institutions, and to support them in their different needs and interests.

The French National RFID Center (CNRFID) aims :

To support the development of RFID solutions both financially and technically.

To participate in the definition of standards and changes in the legal framework.

To encourage the development of our members’ businesses.

To train and inform RFID users and providers.

 To identify technological solutions.

Connectwave is an experimental and test platform for understanding Smart

Objects and Contactless Technologies (RFID, NFC, etc.). Connectwave is a

showcase of industrial technology that aims to be a hub for the discussion,

consideration and implementation of projects via in-situ solutions

demonstrations.

The Aix-Marseille French Tech project has 5 major objectives :

FOSTERING THE

EMERGENCE OF STARTUPS

ENABLING STARTUPS TO

GROW QUICKLY

DECREASE THE NUMBER

AND CREATING LOCAL JOBSThanks to structures and

communities that enable future

entrepreneurs to test their

projects such as : the Startup

#Startmi’Up and Open Bidouille

Camp Provence.

As well as about fifteen

coworking spaces.

Based on public accelerators

such as : Marseille Innovation,

Incubators of the Pays d’Aix

(Pertuis and Meyreuil), European

Business Innovation Centers

(Arbois Science Park) and the

Impulse and Belle de Mai

incubators.

Private accelerators such as :

P-Factory and NetAngels.

Economic development agencies

such as : Provence Promotion and

Pays d’Aix Développement.

The high tech clusters such as :

SCS, SAFE and PRIMI.

To enable them to burn as

quickly as possible through

the growth stages. To do so,

it is necessary to work smart

and conduct outreach

actions.

By continuing to strengthen the

education system, creating

fablabs, building out broadband

and building entire neighborhoods

such as Ilot Allar, La Constance,

The Camp and by providing them

with highly appealing living and

working settings.

#AMFT was present at the Paris

Unveiled CES (october, 2015), a

taste of things to come at the Las

Vegas CES. About twenty

startups are present at Las Vegas

2016.

Next meeting where #AMFT will

be present : MWC Barcelone (22

to 25 february, 2016).

MAJOR OBJECTIVES

12

An area behind which the

Eurobiomed Cluster and

Impulse incubator have been

the drivers for many years.

Euroméditerranée, the €7

billion renovation operation in

Marseille, is offering an urban

playground to deploy Smart

city solutions and services,

ambitioning to create the

Mediterranean city of

tomorrow. Smartseille pilot

block is the first stone of a

Constance in Aix-en-Provence

and its digital cluster.

In hosting, hardware and

software, the region is

bursting with skills and

successes.

It is up to the Chamber of

Commerce and Industry,

Provence Promotion and ARII

(Regional Innovation Agency)

to showcase them abroad.

With the Secured

Communicating Solutions

(SCS) Cluster and CNRFID

(French National RFID Center)

whose works have already

begun several years ago in the

domain.

In June 2015, the CNRFID

debuted Connectwave, a life-

sized technology showcase

dedicated to Connected and

Contactless Objects.
