AFRICAN LIVESTOCK CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION (ALiCE2014)

Livestock is a very important sector in Uganda and indeed in the region as an agent of fighting poverty and undernourishment

The sector provides income for millions of household along the value chain particularly to rural population

The sector also provides all important nutrients to rural population like eggs, milk, meat among others

The sector can also be viewed as complementing crop farming as the crop residue is used as animal feed and the animals on the other hand provides manure

Thus the impact of any improvement in the livestock sector cannot be gainsaid

Why African Livestock Conference and Exhibition (ALiCE)

To seize the opportunities Demand for animals sourced food is expected to grow

exponentially in the region due to Population growth Growing incomes Urbanization

Africa is a net importer of animal sourced food and production will not keep up with consumption growth at least in the short and medium term (ready market)

Africa contribute less than 3% of the global trade of animal sourced foods and less than 10% between Africa states

ALiCE 2014 will be held in June 18th – 20th 2014 at the Speke Resort and Conference Center, Munyonyo, Kampala

Theme; “Developing Livestock Value Chains, Improving Livelihood in Africa”

ALiCE 2014 is jointly hosted by the local and regional livestock associations, institutions and corporations in the private and public sector

The forum is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries, International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), GALVmed, ASARECA, African Union - InterAfrican Bureau of Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) among other public and private sector organizations

complimentary yet distinct goals of; Enhanced competitiveness in the African livestock sector Increased intra-regional trade

Two day conference sessions (Wednesday, June 18th 2014 and Friday, June 20th 2014); this is a high-level dialogue of private and public sector decision makers aimed at sharing, showcasing and synthesizing some of the cutting edge technologies, knowledge, solutions and practices aimed at boosting the African livestock sector competitiveness while tackling the sustainability challenges with a view of increased intra-regional trade in livestock and livestock products
