• Leadership is the ability of an individual to motivate a group of people towards a common goal.

• To influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute to the success of the organization

Management• Managers have subordinates. Leaders have followers.

• Management is about processes, the focus is on planning, communication & control.

• Leadership is about behavior, the focus is about building trust and inspiring people.

Empathy

• The mere fact that someone cares is more often than not rewarded with loyalty.

Adam’s Equity Theory

• This theory attempts to explain relational satisfaction in terms of perceptions of fair/unfair distributions of resources within interpersonal relationships. 

• Each participant’s contribution to the relational exchange, viewed as entitling him/her to rewards

or costs.

Inputs

• The positive and negative consequences that an individual perceives a participant have incurred as a consequence of his/her relationship with another.

Laissez-Faire Leadership

• Leader has full control of the team leaving low autonomy within the group.

Authoritarian Leadership

• Leader leaves room for equality of all group members.

• Each person’s ideas are valued and considered.

Democratic Leadership

• Mixture of democratic and authoritarian leadership approaches.

• Get quick results from highly skilled and self motivated professionals
