Call of Duty is Activision Blizzard’s biggest franchise, and one of the most successful entertainment properties in the world. The company is now working to bridge the hit video game series to film and television.

Last year’s installment in the franchise failed to live up to expectations, and trends suggest the franchise’s unit sales might have peaked, but Call of Duty will continue to post big numbers and remain one of Activision’s most important properties for many years to come.

The Warcraft franchise has spawned hit strategy games, a hugely popular online-role-playing game, a digital card game, and a major motion picture.

World of Warcraft is the highest-grossing game ever. Sales are slowing, but strong performance for its most recent expansion pack shows there’s still life in WoW.

Card game Hearthstone is also a big hit and looks to have a bright future, and a sequel to the Warcraft movie is reportedly being considered.

Released in May 2016, Blizzard’s Overwatch went on to win more “Game of the Year” awards than any other game from last year. The title has built a player base of more than 25 million people worldwide.

Overwatch is one of the most successful launches of new property in the last decade, and Activision Blizzard is exploring the possibility of a television series based on the hit new property.

Candy Crush

When Activision purchased King Digital for $5.9 billion, it bought a company that was built around one massive game. Candy Crush Saga is one of the most successful mobile games ever, and Activision’s ability to maintain and evolve the property could have a big impact on its future performance.

King is exploring the possibility of bridging the popular puzzle series to smartwatches and virtual reality, and Activision has even developed a TV series around the property in conjunction with CBS – due to launch this summer.

When Activision and Bungie Studios partnered to create Destiny, they did so with a 10-year plan in mind. The first game launched in 2014 and was followed by four expansion packs, and more big things are on the way for the franchise.

Destiny

Bungie recently announced a full-on sequel to Destiny, which is reportedly due to launch this September. The game will likely be followed by a series of expansions packs and is ripe for merchandising tie-ins.
