Scenario: Tickets
Sheila buys a theater ticket on the net or from her cell
phone

She receives her ticket on the phone. The ticket is stored securely her SIM

At the theater she presents her ticket by tapping her phone to a contactless
reader

How was the ticket read from the phone?

be exchanged between reader
and phone when brought next
to each other.
Scenario: Hotel keys
Sheila checks into a hotel on her business trip

She receives her door key to her room on her
phone. The key is stored securely her SIM

At her room door she taps her phone to the contactless reader on the door and it opens.

Key is erased from SIM when she checks out

How did the door key get into the phone?
• Keys are sent to the cell phone / SIM using the
mobile network
• End to end security from hotel to SIM ensures that
nobody can spy on the keys
Scenario: Gift card

Sheila's son is buying a gift card for his mum's birthday, automatically sent out to her on the
big day...
Baffled, she receives her gift card on her phone. The card is stored securely her
SIM.

Sheila goes shopping and pays
with her gift card by tapping the phone
to the store's payment terminal

She verifies the gift card balance and sees that there is some left
for shopping tomorrow, too.
How could she see the gift card balance?
