Safety data analysis & models
We specialize in safety data collection & analysis (Accident / Incident Data, Occurrence reporting programs, Flight Data (FDR & QAR)
NLR maintains one of the worlds largest air safety data repositories and has developed the safety data warehouse of EASA
We develop quantified causal models to translate safety data into performance
NLR develops and applies safety data analysis capabilities. To name a few: FAA (risk-based oversight, certification stds) CAA Swiss (Safety performance monitoring) SAC – NL (Airport building turbulence citeria) CAA Singapore (Safety performance indicators) German Wings (Runway excursion risk)

Non-compliant, independent, segregated or mixed mode runway use for Lisbon airport
IATA & ATC South-Africa contracted NLR to develop and maintain the Safety Case for the introduction of RVSM over Africa
Safety Case for the introduction of the A380 in Schiphol Operations
Reduction in ATC tower crew in Norway Introduction of IMC Point in Space
approaches for Swiss rescue helicopters Safety Case for new Wake Vortex

Models & tools supporting performance management
We develop quantified causal models: To understand causal relations Identify safety performance indicators To predict impact of safety measures
Models of different levels of sophistication needed: simple profilers (incursion risk) large policy models complex multi-agent models
Models developed for: FAA (NextGen) ICAO (balked landing) EUROCONTROL (In-trail following) ATC-NL (runway incursion monitor) EASA, ATC-Germany, etc.

Assessment results
• Safety culture must be managed like any other performance driver.
• NLR has developed method and tool to assess and help improve safety culture.
• ASC-IT allows user to establish safety culture maturity level and identify weakspots
• Used by Airlines, Airports, Ground Handlers & others across the globe
