Conference Overview:The growing wave of oil theft, bunkering and vandalism in the Gulf of Guinea is predicted to increase by 2015 and may have reached a tipping point as it recently spread south towards Angola, Africa’s second-largest oil producer. Recently, there was a frightening incident in West Africa where a gang of Nigerian pirates reportedly stole a tugboat and sailed south into Angolan waters on January 18, 2014 where they attacked MT Kerala, an oil products tanker a few miles off the coast of Luanda, the capital of Anglo. The Gulf of Guinea, a major commodities route, which covers an immense area extending from the Guinean coast to offshore Angola, has now become a piracy hotspot, where pirates attack oil tankers and other cargo vessels. They seize large oil tankers and load it onto other ships to sell on the lucrative black market.

The African Oil industry is plagued by several challenges to achieve its maximum output potential. Due to the prevailing security problems, the Nigerian Oil Industry has faced immense losses, from pirate threats, oil thefts on and offshore, Oil bunkering and poor infrastructure. Recent studies shows that in only 7 incidents of attacks by the West African pirates ,refined petroleum products thefts led to an estimated loss of $14 Million to $42 million. The incidents of West African pirates have increased in number in the last one year over taking the number of pirate attack incidents happening in the east African region.

Furthermore, NNPC has also estimated that Nigeria has lost $1.23 billion to oil theft and vandalism in quarter one and the Ministry of Finance for Nigeria estimates the country is losing and estimated $7 billion every year to the above mentioned prolonged security risks. Nispana Innovative Platforms as a company has identified that it is conducive to address these security risks and problems which are affecting the Oil & Gas sector in Africa, and hence has conceptualized the Second Offshore Security Summit in Oil & Gas at Luanda, Angola. This summit will determine and focus to give an insight into the current security challenges and environmental issues faced by the oil companies operating out of Africa. The summit will take place over two days and will have discussions and key presentations by Maritime Security Experts, Oil and Gas exploration and production companies from Africa, Ministry of Petroleum, Naval Forces, African Maritime Security Organizations and other relevant associations and organizations.

The industry experts, defense and security experts will extensively focus on providing answers to several of the security risks and problems the industry is currently facing and decide on how to help the government of Angola strengthen the offshore security apparatus. This summit is a huge platform for solution providers and attendees to come together and present various ways and means to reduce the problems which are increasing in the African Oil and Gas Sector. This Summit will give a factual insight on the situation and will help to create excellent opportunity for networking and sharing experiences in the application of security issues throughout the learning cycle.
