10 Disney Movie Franchises That Will Deliver Wins Through the Next Decade
The Marvel Cinematic Universe• Since its debut in 2008, the franchise has
grossed over $8.9 billion across 12 movies, with an average worldwide gross of roughly
$724 million• 3 movies in the top-ten highest grossing all
time list: The Avengers with $1.52 billion, Avengers: Age of Ultron with $1.4 billion,
and Iron Man 3 with $1.22 billion• As of 2014, Disney and Marvel had movies
planned in the universe through 2028. In 2016, the company will release Captain
America: Civil War and Doctor Strange, with sequels to Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and new properties to follow
Star Wars
• Series has done over $4.5 billion in unadjusted ticket sales and spawned billions in merchandise
• December’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be the first new movie in the series in 10 years, and will be followed by at least two more mainline sequels and a series of spinoff films, including Star Wars: Rogue One in 2016. The series’ universe is expanding.
• Movies will also work to promote the new Star Wars Land at Disney Parks
The Incredibles
• The Incredibles earned more than $630 million in global ticket sales when it released in 2004, and has a 97% favorable score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes
• The Incredibles 2 will reportedly launch in 2017 or 2018 and is likely to deliver impressive box office performance given the popularity of the superhero genre and
strong audience response to the original. The series is a natural fit for further sequels and spinoffs
Alice• 2010 release Alice in Wonderland grossed over $1 billion, with more than $690 million in ticket sales
coming from foreign markets
• Alice Through the Looking Glass is set to debut May
27, 2016, and more sequels are likely if the
film manages to replicate the box office

Pirates of the Caribbean• Series has grossed more than $3.7 billion
in unadjusted worldwide box office

Maleficent• 2014’s Maleficent was one
of the biggest hits of the year, turning in more than
$758 million in global ticket sales
• A sequel has been confirmed, and star Angelina Jolie has
expressed interest in returning
• The Maleficent sequel is a strong candidate to cross $1
billion at the box office
