THE YEAR HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN, BUT ALREADY, WE HAVE LAUNCHED THE BRAND NEW LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SPORT MODEL WHICH REPLACES THE LONG STANDING FREELANDER.NEW DISCOVERY SPORTLand Rover announced the new Discovery Sport last year and it quickly became one of the UK's most hotly anticipated new cars with unprecedented levels of interest. It recently received the prestigious 'What Car? Safety Award' and is a leader in its class, not only for its all- terrain 4-wheel drive system, but also for its standard seven seat configuration (on 4-WD models) and class-leading rear legroom. Needless to say, it is on sale now...and models are available for delivery from March onwards on the new ‘15’ plate, (subject to availability).

Land Rover Financial Services has provided us with some very competitive, class leading funding packages for this superb vehicle and indeed for the latest specification models of the Land Rover Discovery too – the original seven seat Land Rover - as well as other models across the Land Rover range.

In other news, our Range Rover Evoque continues to be a success story in its own right, with delivery times for many models still exceeding immediate supply (please call for availability). Defender models too, are in short supply in this, the Defender's last year of production. The final date that we are able to submit orders to Land Rover is Friday June 26th.

APPROVED USED 'IMPROVED'!Our pre-owned Land Rover business continues to grow, building on our success of the last two years. Our range is now larger than ever. This, combined with some extremely competitive finance packages has

attracted customers from all over the UK. As an added bonus, from 2nd February 2015, any vehicle under five years old at the point of purchase now has a minimum of two years Land Rover Approved Warranty and roadside cover as standard.

VIDEO HEALTH CHECKSMany of you will recall from our previous newsletter that Gordon Lamb now carry out video vehicle health checks. All vehicles arriving in our workshop are assessed by our technicians 'on camera'. The report footage can then be e-mailed directly to you whilst your vehicle is still with us with either ‘good news’ that everything is in order, or with a report of any safety related issue that you may not be aware of. This facility provides the opportunity for any necessary additional work to be carried out whilst the vehicle is with us, as opposed to having to re-book another appointment. The customer feedback we have received for this fabulous new facility has been extremely positive indeed.

'SMART' CHIP, DENT AND SCRATCH REPAIRSFor those customers who are not aware, we have an in –house 'Smart Repair' facility. Should you require items such as a bumper corner or scratch re-painting or an alloy wheel refurbishing, please let our service team know. In the majority of cases we will be able to complete this work within the day.

THE BARBOUR LAND ROVER COLLECTIONOn a final note, before I sign off and leave you to read the remainder of this newsletter, I am are pleased to announce that we are part of a small pilot group of retailers officially authorised to sell the all new ‘Barbour for Land Rover’ clothing range. These garments have been designed in conjunction with Land Rover and are only available at a very limited number of high street outlets. DEFENDER

Land Rover has said it will stop production of its Defender model this year because it will not meet new European laws on fuel emissions.

The last of the 4x4 models will roll off the production line at its plant in Solihull in the West Midlands at the end of this year it confirmed. The model had evolved over 67 years of production but it could not be adapted to meet new emissions rules. The first model in the style of the Defender was introduced in 1948 and was modelled on a World War II Jeep. It was not given the Defender name until the early 1990s, shortly after the launch of the Land Rover Discovery. More than two million have been sold since the car first appeared.

A replacement model for the Defender is in development and will be launched early next year. It's reported the new model will be "instantly recognised" by people who drive the current vehicle but it "won't necessarily be cheap".

As we read earlier; this year we say a fond farewell to one of Land Rover's most iconic models; The Defender. With a history stretching back 68 years, this is a Land Rover that has thrived for decades on its unquestionable capability and iconic shape.

To mark the announcement Land Rover has created the largest sand drawing ever produced in the UK. A Defender outline measuring a staggering 1km across was drawn on the beach at Red Wharf Bay in Anglesey using a fleet of six Land Rovers. The unique image is a tribute to the moment in 1947 when the engineering director of Rover, Maurice Wilks, first sketched the shape for the original Land Rover in the sand of Red Wharf Bay and proposed the idea to his brother Spencer, Land Rover’s managing director.

Creating the giant piece of temporary artwork at Red Wharf Bay required a fleet of six Land Rovers, each towing an agricultural 12-foot harrow to draw the unmistakable outline of the Defender in the sand. The vehicles chosen for the race against the Anglesey tides chart the evolution of the Defender from its introduction in 1948 to the present day.

A Land Rover Series I, II and III were joined on the beach by a Ninety from the Eighties, a Defender 90 Hard Top and a Defender 110 Station Wagon. They helped to draw the continuous 4.52km line – the length of 1,118 Defender 90 Station Wagons – into the sand with just minutes to spare before it was erased by the incoming tide.

A FOND FAREWELL

Keith Jowett is one of our top sales executives and has been a Gordon Lamb employee since 1988. Keith started his career with us as a service advisor. He was swiftly promoted to the position of service manager before moving on to car sales by joining our Saab sales team which was located on Eccelsall Road in Sheffield. Keith continued to work with this niche brand for a total of 23 years until 2011 when after 12 months of uncertainty the Swedish manufacturer filed for bankruptcy and Keith had to look for a new opportunity.

Waiting in the wings was a vacant position in sales at our Land Rover dealership here in Chesterfield and so we were able to retain his services and his expertise with prestige brands.

As a busy sales executive, Keith doesn't have a great deal of spare time, but when he does get a day to himself, he likes nothing better than a round of golf

and has played all over the UK. With a handicap of 18, he clearly has a good feel for the game.

After an afternoon on the golf course, Keith likes to relax by indulging in his passion for cooking. His speciality is spicy Indian dishes. He also loves cinema, but says that during the working week, he is so tired, he rarely stays awake long enough to see the end of a film! Keith's favourite car is a Lamborghini, preferably in yellow, but he currently drives a Defender, staying loyal to the brand… and saving a few quid on company car tax!
