With a groundbreaking new design the Civic is set to revolutionise the way we drive. It's a five door, with the dynamic, sporty

look of a three door. It's extremely spacious and versatile inside without compromising on quality or comfort. But what makes the

new Civic really different is its radical approach to the driving experience. It's a car designed to give you an exhilarating driving

experience. Our aim is simple: we don't want you to just think this is a great car, we want you to feel it.

New Civic. New Era.

When our designers were creating the new Civic they openly looked for inspiration throughout Europe. They wanted to build

a car that could take on the Autobahns of Germany as easily as it could the hairpins of Southern France. They wanted a car that

could survive in the harsh elements of Northern Europe and still look stylish when cruising along by the Mediterranean. So they

drew inspiration from Europe. Not just for style but for its varied cultures and way of life. The result is a truly unique car that has

something for everyone.

Inspired by you

Innovation from every angle

We're not just talking about the shape.

You'll find Honda's world renowned innovation

everywhere you look. For instance, you'll notice

the chrome triangular exhaust pipes. The rear

spoiler accentuates the sporty lines and tapered

appearance, this increases aerodynamics,

whilst keeping the wheels firmly on the road

whatever the speed and conditions.

Look closely and you'll see the rear door handles

are hidden, fitted flush with the window pillars.

So whilst the new Civic is a five door, it has

the flowing lines of a three door.

There's innovation wherever you look. Not just

under the bonnet or chassis.

Honda’s Jet.The experimental HondaJetchallenges standard aircraftdesign with the radical andimaginative solution of locatingthe engines on top of thewings instead of underneath, which increases fuel economyby 40% and allows 30% morecabin space.

At Honda, we believe the driver should feel a

real connection with their car.

So we borrowed from our racing heritage to create

the unique dual zone dashboard. It puts all the

vital information in your peripheral vision, so you

need never take your eyes from the road.

All the main controls and switches are just a

touch away from around the steering wheel.

The dual link cockpit with its high quality finish

makes you feel at one with the car, whilst the unique

optional i-SHIFT (Automatic Manual Transmission)

allows you to choose your transmission option.

Select M (manual) mode for a sporty drive without

a clutch to slow changes down. Or A (automatic)

mode for a more relaxed but equally exhilarating

driving experience.

Race bred innovation and control

INTERIOR DESIGN 10 11

Optional i-SHIFTallows you to choose

either automatic or manualdriving. There are paddle

shifts on the wheel for manualchanges, just like Formula 1.

Surrounded by intelligence

The new Civic is the intelligent choice.

Its innovative satellite navigation system uses both

pan-European DVD based mapping software and

GPS (Global Positioning System) to determine

your exact location. Simply navigate the screen

to operate in any one of eleven languages.

Navigate to a different part of the screen and change

your air conditioning or audio system settings.

It’s cutting edge but very simple to use. However,

if you prefer, you don't even have to lift a finger.

It even has the latest voice recognition system fit-

ted as standard.

Simply speak your instructions and it will make

the necessary changes for you. It will even

phone home for you on command. It's not

innovation for innovation sake, but innovation

with a practical purpose for you personally.

Pure Honda.

The satellite navi-gation

screens are easyto use with themulti-jog dial.

Multi-jog dial.

Voice recognitionsatellite navigationallows you to con-

trol your cabinenvironment with-

out lifting yourhands from thesteering wheel.

INTERIOR DESIGN 14 15

How do you give passengers great space inside without compromising a great shape outside?

Our designers came up with an innovative answer in the 'forward cabin' concept. By making the engine

bay as compact as possible and moving the fuel tank forward, cabin room is increased all round be it

leg room, head room or elbow room. Making the new Civic deceptively spacious.

More space from the same space

8421 Civic Brochure FULL BROCHURE:Layout 1 4/12/07 14:11 Page 15

Page 9: Honda Civic Brochure

INTERIOR DESIGN 16 17

The new Civic challenges expectations in every way. You wouldn't think it could take a full size bicycle

directly from the kerbside. But it can. The doors open an almost full 90 degrees for easy access.

And the rear Magic Seats don't just fold flat to accommodate cargo; their bases also flip up like cinema

seats, allowing tall and awkward shapes to be stowed easily. This hidden versatility puts the new Civic

in a class of its own.

Hidden versatility

Rear seats can be folded flat to increase

boot space, or their bases flipped up to accom-

modate high or awkward cargo.

The new Civic even takes innovation into the boot. Instead of one storage level, there are two.

The first level has class leading 415 litres of space. A hidden second level offers a further 70 litres, ideal for

storing wet items or valuables. This level can also be sunken to store taller objects with the tonneau cover

still in place.

Split level boot

luggage. Enough roomin the second level for

all your valuables. All accessed in one sim-

The inspiration for this amazing car was the

stunning architecture, style and culture

of Milan.

Honda’s designer was so impressed he wanted to

capture this dynamism, strength and innovative spirit

in his design.

But when it came to testing he wanted something

far more challenging. So the new Civic was put

through its paces in the searing heat of the desert

and the freezing wastes of the Arctic. It negotiated

Autobahns and minor roads. It accommodated

drivers and passengers over 1.8 metres in height

to test for comfort and roominess. And its road

holding was tested to the limit along the hairpin

bends of the Alps.

The Civic's perfect weight distribution and race

bred suspension reacted precisely, providing great

handling along with its great comfort.

The designer had his dream car. A spirited, high

tech, unconventional and totally reliable hatchback.

Conceived in Europe. Tested in the Arctic.

Twin ring Motegi race trackWhere better to test our cars? We see Grand Prix

circuits as the ultimate testing ground. So much so,we decided to build one.

Formula 1.The new Honda Civichas racing in its genes.Honda has won nofewer than 6 consecutiveFormula 1 Constructors’World Championshiptitles and 5 consecutiveFormula 1 Driver’s WorldChampionship titles. Infact, many of the Civic’sinnovations have beendeveloped directly fromthe track.

You might think a car with such startling looks

and performance must be heavy on fuel, but

you'd be wrong.

For the new Civic we pushed our world leading

engine technology to the limit and produced a new

generation 1.8 i-VTEC single overhead cam engine.

With electronically controlled intelligent valve timing, it's

like two engines in one. At high speeds its equivalent

to a powerful 2.0 litre engine. But at low speed urban

driving it's reported to be as economical as a 1.6.

Serious power combined with serious fuel savings.

That's innovative engine design no-one else matches.

TECHNOLOGY/PERFORMANCE 24 25

More power, more economy, from a new generation engine.

1.4 engine with the economy of a small engine

You want an exhilarating car with innovation in it’s genes. One that delivers a great driving

experience. But if you also want ultimate economy, our much praised 1.4 i-DSI engine is the ulti-

mate choice. Its dual sequential ignition burns fuel sparingly, giving it the economy of a smaller

engine, whilst still producing more power and torque than most engines of its size. It's ideal for

both short trips through the city and long journeys on the motorway, and it does it while keeping

emissions to an absolute minimum.

ASIMO.The Civic demanded many new

innovations and technologies. But in a culture of challenge

that produced ASIMO, ourworld famous robot with

ground-breaking abilities in bal-ance, manoeuvrability, face

and voice recognition, we met thechallenge. It’s part of our daily lives.

Page 15: Honda Civic Brochure

Honda imagination and innovation in engine

design has made it the cleanest and quietest

diesel in its class.

It's also quick and economical. It can reach

100kmph in just 8.6 seconds yet consumes the

least fuel per 100km compared to many of its

diesel rivals.

The best torque in its class also means it can out

accelerate the competition quickly and smoothly,

while emissions easily beat stringent European

requirements. With an engine lighter than any

comparable diesel, its torque to weight ratio is

unmatchable.

And that means superb handling, power, and per-

formance. It's typical Honda innovation.

Delivered with no compromise.

TECHNOLOGY/PERFORMANCE 28 29

An impressive performance

SAFETY 30 31

Under that great shape you'll find some great

new safety features.

The rounded dash means no box-like restrictions

for airbags. In the event of collision they can inflate

without hindrance and are far more effective.

If you're hit from behind, the head rests move

forward to absorb the shock and help prevent

whiplash – another Honda first. And a high tech

multiplex warning system keeps you aware of the

safety features of your car.

Multiple airbags, ABS (Anti Lock Brakes), EBD

(Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and VSA

(Vehicle Stability Assist) are all fitted as standard,

as are ISOFix anchors on the outer rear seats.

As an optional extra you can even have a tiny

camera mounted on the rear bumper which relays

images to the Sat Nav screen, making parking

and reversing safer and simpler. As far as Honda

is concerned, you can never be too safe.

Absorbing body shellYou can only feel gen-uinely exhilarated by acar when you feel gen-uinely safe. The Civichas a toughenedbodyshell to absorband deflect impactaway from passengers.

More innovation. More safety.

SAFETY 32 33

The new Civic wasn't just put through its paces

on Autobahns and mountain roads.

It underwent intensive safety testing at our specialist

Research and Development facility at Tochigi - the

largest and most sophisticated in the world. Here we

crashed model after model from every conceivable

angle and analysed all the data.

The result is an incredibly strong car with crumple

zones that move energy away from the cabin in

a collision.

We built the car of our dreams. Then crashed it.

At Honda, we developed POLAR II,the world’s most advanced crash testdummy. By replicating actions of the

human body in a crash it helped usdesign pedestrian-friendly crumple

zones for the Civic.

But it isn't just drivers and passengers that need

protecting. Pedestrians do too. So we built POLAR II,

the world's first crash test dummy that mimics the

human body exactly in a crash. It allowed us to

identify potential points of contact and find ways

of lessening the impact.

17” seven spoke alloys for a sharp finish and evensharper road adhesion.

Another highly stylish design detail, the folding mirrors have built-in indicators in a unique triangle shape. The length of the indicator makes it easier for other road users to spot.

The rear spoiler helps keep the Civic firmly on the road without obscuring rearvision. In fact, there is an area of glass below it for improved vision.

Long and angular, the headlights echo the designdetail and are tucked close to the bonnet line forenhanced aerodynamics.

Long and slim, the rear light cluster complements the body shape perfectly andoffers a broader spread of light.

Recessed and flush with the rear pillar, the rear doorhandles are unobtrusive and give the dynamic looksof a 3 door with the practicalities of a 5 door car.

Finished in chrome, the exhaust tail pipe again mirrors the Civic’s triangulardetailing and is exhilarating in both concept and execution.

Located in the front bumper the front foglights areinteresting in shape and very powerful.

Recessed and triangular in shape, they are dynamically interesting and saferthan protruding handles.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL 36 37

The incredible innovation in the Civic isn’t just about the big things. It’s about the little things, too. Every aspect, every detail

has been developed to be both pleasing to the eye, and have genuine purpose.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL 38 39

Inside, the Civic has received as much designer attention as the outside. Everything has cutting edge looks as well as work-

ing with 100% efficiency.

Located on the right spoke of the steering wheel, the cruise control options can be activated by fingeror thumb without taking your hand from the wheel.

Vehicle Stability Assist helps you maintain control during cornering, accelerationand collision-avoidance manoeuvres.

Similarly, the audio controls are located on the leftspoke of the steering wheel. You don’t have to lookaway from the road to find them.

Hot or cold air on tap. The climate control allowsyou to independently control the drivers’ or passen-gers’ environment.

The stylish 3-spoke steering wheel allows yourperipheral vision to take in all the vital informationon the dash at a glance.

Pedals and footplate have an exciting futuristic design, in keeping with the overallconcept of the Civic.

The driver’s door arm rest, finished in brushed aluminium, carries controls forelectric windows and heated wing mirrors.

The supportive seats are heated, adding extra com-fort for those cold winter mornings.

With the first few drops of rain falling on the windscreen, the wipers will start towork automatically. Then, control is over to you.

Even the speakers are design features in the Civic. We don’t hide them away, we put them where theycan be seen and where they are best for soundreproduction.
