FUEL INJECTION 101• Many times a second, a group of sensors

measure various engine and atmospheric conditions.

• Just as fast, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) analyzes the sensor data and commands

the correct fuel delivery.• Sensors also evaluate the accuracy of the EFI commands and use the feedback to fine

tune future commands.

ADVANTAGES OF EFI• More torque and power– Intake manifold can be optimized, improved control of fuel and

spark, tunability• Improved throttle response and drivability– No hesitation/stumble when cold– No vapor lock when hot– Infinitely tuned versus tuned for ‘one spot’ with a carb– Easy starting, regardless of weather

• Better fuel economy– Superior tunability, Wide band feedback and control

• Lower exhaust emissions– Good for many reasons

• Overall increase in engine lifetime– Better running engines last longer

DISADVANTAGES OF EFI• Complicated– Requires advanced knowledge of engine performance

• Tuning is difficult and expensive– Requires a dyno and countless test sessions– Requires a laptop and the ability to use it– Requires a professional tuner

• Expensive– EFI system, manifold, dyno time, laptop, tuner time

• Can’t see it– Little black boxes and a lot of wires

• Fear factor– Horror stories of legend

• Sanctioning bodies– Many don’t embrace or allow EFI

What is “REAL” Self TuningWARNING: Many companies are claiming ‘self tuning’

• Closed Loop Wide Band Feedback is NOT self tuning• Limited block learn from closed loop is NOT self

tuning• Requiring a ‘pre-tune’ or ‘selecting’ a map to start is

a sure sign of inferior, inaccurate claim of self tuning• “REAL” self tuning does not require a pre-tune or

map at all. EZ-EFI builds a map from SCRATCH!

Fuel system – this is the biggest time variable.

• If the vehicle is already EFI based, fuel setup is very quick.

• For carb conversions, the fuel system requires modification to convert to EFI –

this could be time consuming• EZ EFI Master kit includes FULL Fuel

system

Where is the time?Installing the Wide Band O2

• All EZ-EFI kits include a weld-in bung and plug. The bung can be welded in at a shop and plugged for the drive home, or it can be welded in to a header ‘off the

car’.• FAST does NOT recommend “clamp-in” adaptors for

wide band O2. These may appear easy, but they are prone to leaking. Leaking exhaust will kill self-tuning

EFI!
