ABOUT

The Saturdays are a British/Irish girl group. They formed in 2007 and band members include Frankie Bridge, Una Foden, Rochelle Humes, Mollie King and Vanessa White. Frankie and Rochelle are also former members of S Club Juniors. The Saturdays were formed through Fascination Records, who gave them an instant record deal with the label as well as a sub-division of Polydor Records. The band went on tour with Girls Aloud as they prepared to release their first single ‘If This Is Love’ which charted in the top ten. The group's music style is pop, however throughout their career they have also ventured into dance type music also.

LOGO

The Saturdays logo is plain yet also quite stylised. The font is relatively simple but has being condensed so that it appears that the letters slightly overlap. Although this example is in black and white, the colour often changes to fit with the colour scheme of the album or product being displayed at the time. These are often bright colours which adheres to the pop genre that they are in. It is quite a modern font which allows an audience to tell that it is a current, young band.

WEBSITE

http://www.thesaturdays.co.uk/The website for The Saturdays is slightly more mature for a girl band. This is because they are a little bit older. It is quite plain with a white background and a faded image of the Saturdays at the top which is summery. This gives off a fun brand image and also a happy one. It features video clips from their YouTube and has links to each individual band member. This website is slightly different in terms of content because the band are currently on a break. This means they all have their own ventures which have been included on their individual pages. There is also links to merchandise and cd’s.

MERCHANDISE

On the bands website is a link to their online store. In the store there are links to merchandise such as tote bags, t-shirts and signed singles. This is done to make more money for the band and providing more products for the fans.

NEWS STORIES

As the Saturdays are currently on a break, the news stories are not about the band and what they are doing. The stories are following each individual member instead. The stories are more about their personal lives and what they have been doing. They are relatively average in terms of content and do not feature and ‘scandalous’ type stories which would harm their image. It is mostly about their fashion, families, or personal ventures. For example, one story discusses how Vanessa has joined a campaign in helping Teenage Cancer Trust. This is positive representation within the media which in keeps with their happy, mature and clean brand image.

OVERALL

Overall from researching the Saturdays I have discovered them to be a typically ‘pop’ girl band. They are very bright and colourful and present themselves as a happy fun band. However, as they are slightly older, they also portray themselves as more mature in terms of their music and brand image. They also have a very clean ‘role model’ type image, like a lot of girl bands, which is shown through the type of news stories featured on them.
