APPLICATION OF NITROUS OXIDE IN AUTOMOBILE

Introduction It is the modern technology used in automobile to
increase the power by injecting nitrous oxide into the cylinder.
Nitrous oxide injection technology in automobile is a difficult technology to understand, though it is the easiest and most effective performance modification.
Nitrous oxide engine is an engine in which the oxygen required for burning the fuel stems from the decomposition of nitrous oxide rather than air
About Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous Oxide also known as dinitrogen oxide or dinitrogen monoxide.
It is commonly known as Laughing Gas.Under room condition it is colorless, non
flammable gas with a pleasant slightly sweet order.
Types Of NO(Nitrous Oxide)
Basically it is of two types-1- Wet System2-Dry System
Dry System
The nitrous oxide is injected in to the dry air (Without Fuel) upstream in the manifold and it is then mixed with fuel at the injectors.
The extra fuel required to maintain the burn balance from lean to rich is delivered by the injectors.
The primary part of the intake is kept dry of fuel.
Wet System
The fuel and nitrous oxide are mixed and introduced together to the primary part of the intake.
This system produces slightly more power than dry but can’t be applied to an engine with a dry intake typically.
Advantages
Offers more power-per-dollar than all known alternatives.Ability to provide instant power. Power level can be
varied by changing jet.Unlike cylinder head and CAM etc. the system can be
transferred from vehicle to vehicle.No system can be increased by .5hp(.37kw) to
3000hp(2000kw), depending upon the engine type and nitrous system type.
Limitation
Overheating of cylinder leads to explosion.Liquids nitrous will cause severe and permanent
frostbite damage to skin.Inhalation of NO can cause suffocation and
immediate death.If a stock fuel engine system can’t supply enough
fuel to the engine, the mixture will become too lean and severe engine damage will occur.
Conclusion
This technology has been implemented in sport vehicle since it has ability to provide instant power whenever needed.
Within the few years the use of nitrous oxide in vehicles will be implemented in commercial vehicles also
