3 Common Freight Shipping Acronyms &
What They Mean
As with any industry, freightshipping has its own jargon—
including its own set of acronyms
When you’re researching freight shipping services and collecting
quotes, you’ll likely run across one (or all of these acronyms)
To keep you out of the dark, here are a few of those
acronyms and what they mean
1. LTL
LTL stands for Less-Than-Truckload. It’s often used to ship
items that are in excess of 100 pounds, and typically
use standard sized pallets during shipment.
2. COD
COD stands for Cash on Delivery.
It means that the driver takes cash from the customer
at the site of delivery
3. BOL
BOL is your Bill of Landing. It’s essentially a receipt for your goods that are delivered to the
transportation provider
