OverviewRead this manual thoroughly tobecome familiar with how thenavigation system operates.

The navigation system includesnavigation and audio functions.

While entering the vehicle or whenturning the vehicle off, some DVDMap Disc noise is normal.

Keeping your eyes on the roadand your mind on the drivingis important for safe driving.The navigation system has built-infeatures intended to help keepyour eyes on the road and mind onthe drive. Some features may bedisabled while driving. Note thatthese functions will be grayed-out.A grayed-out function indicates it isnot available when the vehicle ismoving.

All functions are available when thevehicle is parked. Do the followingbefore driving:. Become familiar with the

navigation system operation,control buttons on the faceplate,and touch-sensitive screenbuttons of the navigationsystem.

. Set up the audio by presettingfavorite stations, setting thetone, and adjusting thespeakers.

. Set up the navigation featuresbefore beginning driving, suchas entering an address or apreset destination.

. Set up your phone numbersin advance so they can becalled easily with the pressof a single button or a singlevoice command (for navigationsystems equipped with phonecapability).

Taking your eyes off the road toolong or too often while using thenavigation system could cause acrash resulting in injury or deathto you or others. Focus yourattention on driving.

{ WARNING

Avoid looking too long or toooften at the moving map on thenavigation screen. This couldcause a crash and you or otherscan be injured or killed. Use theturn-by-turn voice guidancedirections whenever possible.

Use the navigation system to:. Plan a route.. Select a destination using

various methods and choices.. Follow turn-by-turn route and

map guidance with voiceprompts, only if permittedby traffic laws, controls,and conditions.

You should always be alert andobey traffic and roadway lawsand instructions, regardless ofthe guidance from the navigationsystem. Because the navigationsystem uses street map informationthat does not include all trafficrestrictions or the latest roadchanges, it may suggest using a

road that is now closed forconstruction or a turn thatis prohibited by signs at theintersection. Because the systemuses limited information, you mustalways evaluate whether followingthe system's directions is safe andlegal for the current conditions.

When the navigation system isturned on, a screen may appearwith the information below, andyou must read and acknowledgethe information it contains.

{ WARNING

Taking your eyes off the road forextended periods could cause acrash resulting in injury or deathto you or others.

To help avoid a crash in which youor others could be killed:. Always concentrate on your

driving first by keeping your eyesand mind on the road, and yourhands on the wheel.

. Follow system directions onlyif permitted by traffic laws,controls, and conditions.

. Before using this system, readthe owner's manual and learnhow it operates.

. Some system controls cannotbe used the when vehicle ismoving.

After you acknowledge the startup information you will be ableto access the NAV (navigation)and DEST (destination) functions.Once accessed, you can enter ordelete information in the navigationsystem or access other functions.See instructions later in this section.

Every fifty times the vehicle isstarted and the navigation systemis turned on, the Caution screen

appears. After reading the caution,select OK to load the map DVDinformation. If OK is not selected, allcontrol buttons except for NAV andDEST can be accessed. You canalso press NAV to have this Cautionscreen appear.

When getting started, set thenavigation system to yourpreference or delete information youmay have entered using variousoptions.

To change the language of thenavigation screens, see “DriverInformation Center (DIC)” in thevehicle's owner manual index formore information.

To change the navigationscreens from English or metric,see “DIC Operation and Displays”in the vehicle's owner manual indexfor more information.

Deleting Personal Information

This navigation system can recordand store personal information suchas names and addresses. At times,such as when you are disposingof your vehicle, you may want todelete this information. See “EditAddress Book — Edit/View” underNavigation Menu on page 52 fordeleting information from theaddress book.

Limit Features While Driving

The navigation system may havethis feature.

Press the Limit Features WhileDriving screen screen button toturn on and off the ability to limitfunctions while driving. When thisscreen button is highlighted, thefollowing functions are limited whiledriving:. Music Navigator Scrolling. Radio Category Scrolling. Navigation Menu Scrolling and

some functions

Some functions will remain limitedregardless of the setting.

Storing Radio Station Presets

To set preset radio stations:

1. PressO to turn the system on.

2. Press the AUDIO control buttonand select the desired band(AM, FM1, FM2, XM1, or XM2(if equipped)).

3. Use the f knob or the SEEKarrows to tune to the desiredstation.

4. Press and hold one of the fivepreset screen buttons, at thebottom of the screen, until youhear a beep or see the stationdisplayed on the selected presetbutton.

5. Repeat the steps for eachpreset.

See “Storing Radio Station Presets”under AM-FM Radio on page 14 formore information.

Setting the Clock

To set the time:

1. Press the clock button locatedin the upper right corner of thescreen.

2. Press Set.

3. Press the Hours andMinutes − and + signs todecrease and to increase thetime. See “Setting the Clock”under Navigation Menu onpage 52 for more information.

Setting the Search Area,Entering an Address andPoint of Interest, and StoringPreset Destinations

Before entering an Address,Point of Interest, Home, or PresetDestination, select the appropriateregion that contains the finaldestination. Your vehicle must be inP (Park) to perform this operation.

Setting the Search Area

To set the search area:

1. If the radio is already on witha map disc inserted, skip toStep 5.

2. PressO to turn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc.See “Installing the Map DVD”under Maps on page 43 formore information.

4. A caution may appear. Press OKto proceed.

5. Press the DEST control button.

6. Press the Change Search Areascreen button.

7. Select the appropriate regionnumbered screen button thatcontains your final destination.

8. Press Back o return to theDestination Entry menu.See Destination on page 65for more information.

Entering an Address

If you are having trouble finding acity or a street name:. Input the street name first

instead of the city name,or vice versa.

. Input more characters or reducethe amount of characters toreduce or expand the availableoptions.

To set a destination by entering acity name:

1. If the radio is already on witha map disc inserted, skip toStep 5.

2. PressO to turn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc.See “Installing the Map DVD”under Maps on page 43 formore information.

4. A caution may appear. Press OKto proceed.

5. Press the DEST control button.

6. Press the6 ( Address Entry)screen button.

7. The City name category willautomatically be selectedfor entry. Start entering thecity name.

If five or fewer names areavailable for the enteredcharacters, a list displays.If more than five are available,there will be a screen buttonwith a number in it, it representsthe number of available cities.Select this button to view thelist and select a city.

8. Once a city is selected the streetname category will automaticallybe selected for entry. Startentering the street name.

Do not enter directionalinformation or street type,and use the space symbolscreen button (U )between street or city names.For example, the street nameN. Royal Oak Rd. should beentered as royalU oak.

Use the backspace (q ) screenbutton if an incorrect characterhas been entered.

If five or fewer names areavailable, a list displays. If morethan five are available, therewill be a screen button with anumber in it, it represents thenumber of available streets.Select this button to view the list.

9. Select the street name withthe correct prefix from the list(Dr., Ln., St., etc.).

10. Once a street has beenselected, the numeric keyboarddisplays, allowing you to enterthe house number. The systemwill display the house numberrange that is available for thestreet.

11. Select the Go screen button.A map screen, with thedestination marked, will appear.

12. Select the route preference(Fastest, Shortest, or Other).The system will calculate andhighlight the route.

13. Select Start Guidance. You arenow ready to start your route.

See “Address Entry” underDestination on page 65 for moreinformation.

Entering a Point of Interest (POI)

To set a destination by entering aPoint of Interest (POI):

1. If the radio is already on witha map disc inserted, skip toStep 5.

2. PressO to turn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc.See “Installing the Map DVD”under Maps on page 43 formore information.

4. A caution may appear. Press OKto proceed.

5. Press the DEST control button.

6. Pressi (Point of Interest).

7. Enter the specific title of thePOI in the POI name space(e.g. Washington Monument).

If five or fewer names areavailable, a list displays. If morethan five are available, therewill be a screen button with anumber in it, it represents thenumber of available POIs. Selectthis button to view the list.

8. Select the Go screen button.A map screen, with thedestination marked, will appear.

9. Select the route preference(Fastest, Shortest, or Other).The system will calculate andhighlight the route.

10. Select Start Guidance. You arenow ready to start your route.

Storing Preset Destinations

2. PressO to turn the system on.

4. A caution may appear. Press OKto proceed.

5. Press the DEST control button.

6. Enter a destination. SeeDestination on page 65 forinformation on how to entera destination.

7. Press Mark from the mapscreen to add the currentfinal destination as a presetdestination.

The address book screen willappear.

8. Select the Name screen button.An alpha-keyboard will display.Enter the name.

9. Press and hold one of thescreen buttons at the bottomof the screen until a pop-upconfirmation displays.

The name will appear in thatpreset destination screen buttonand is now available to selectfrom the Destination Entryscreen. See “Using Your StoredPreset Destinations” next inthis section to select it as adestination.

Using Your Stored PresetDestinations

These destinations are available forselection while driving.

1. If the radio is already on witha map disc inserted, skip toStep 5.

2. PressO to turn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc.See “Installing the Map DVD”under Maps on page 43 formore information.

4. A caution may appear. Press OKto proceed.

5. Press the DEST control button.

6. Select one of the availablepreset destination screenbuttons. A map screen, with thedestination marked, will appear.

7. Select the route preference(Fastest, Shortest, or Other).The system calculates andhighlights the route.

8. Select Start Guidance. You arenow ready to start your route.

Canceling Guidance

Guidance will be canceled onceyou arrive at your final destination.To cancel guidance prior to arrivalat the final destination:

1. Press the DEST control button.

2. Press the Cancel Guidancescreen button.

Guidance Volume

To adjust the volume of voiceguidance prompts:

1. Press MENU to enter the menuoptions, then press it repeatedlyuntil Nav is selected or press theNav screen button.

2. Press > ( Voice Prompt).

3. Press the + or – buttons toincrease or to decrease thevolume of the voice prompts.

See “Voice Prompt” underNavigation Menu on page 52 formore information.

Cleaning the Display Screen

Use a soft clean cotton clothdampened with clean water.

Radio

AM-FM RadioNotice: Before adding any soundequipment to the vehicle, suchas an audio system, CD player,CB radio, mobile telephone,or two-way radio, make surethat it can be added by checkingwith your dealer. Also, checkfederal rules covering mobileradio and telephone units.If sound equipment can be added,it is very important to do itproperly. Added sound equipmentcan interfere with the operationof the vehicle's engine, radio,or other systems, and evendamage them. The vehicle'ssystems can interfere with theoperation of sound equipmentthat has been added.

Notice: The chime signals relatedto safety belts, parking brake,and other functions of the vehicleoperate through the navigationsystem. If that equipment isreplaced or additional equipmentis added to the vehicle, thechimes may not work. Make surethat replacement or additionalequipment is compatible withthe vehicle before installing it.See “Accessories andModifications” in the Indexof the vehicle's owner manual.

Playing the Radio

O (Power/Volume):

1. Press to turn the audio systemon and off.

2. Turn to increase or to decreasethe volume.

f (Tuning/Sound):

1. Turn to go to the next orprevious frequency.

2. Press to display the Soundmenu. See “Sound Menu” laterin this section.

AUDIO:

1. Press to display the audioscreen.

2. Press to switch between AM,FM, or XM, if equipped, disc,or AUX (Auxiliary), or press thescreen button. See AM-FMRadio on page 14, CD/DVDPlayer on page 22, and AuxiliaryDevices on page 41 for moreinformation.

Finding a Station

If viewing a map screen, press thesource screen (AM, FM, XM, CD,etc.) button. The display will splitbetween the audio screen and themap screen. All station-changingfunctions can be performed fromthis screen.

Category:

1. Press this button, located in themiddle of the screen, to receivea list of all of the selected bandstations in the area.

2. Use the up and down arrows toscroll the frequencies.

3. Press on the desired frequency.

XM lists will also contain acategory to select and the stationsor channels that pertain to thecategory. For XM, press the left andright arrows to change categories.The station information appears onthe display. See “Radio Menu” laterin this section to add and removeXM categories from the categorylist. When listening to XM stations,you will be able to select all of thecategories when using the rightand left arrows on the main audioscreen. The categories, whenremoved, will not be enabled toselect from the category list screen.

FM lists may also contain acategory to select if stationsin your area support RadioData Systems (RDS).

$ Refresh List: Press to refreshthe list of stations.

When viewing a map screen, thename of the station or channel willappear on the display.

¨ SEEK / © SEEK:1. Press the arrows to go to the

next or previous station and staythere.

2. To scan stations, press andhold either arrow for more thantwo seconds. The radio goesto a station, plays for a fewseconds, then goes to thenext station.

3. To stop scanning, press eitherarrow again.

Storing Radio Station Presets

This feature allows you to store upto 30 preset stations. See “Numberof Preset Pages” under “RadioMenu” later in this section for moreinformation. You can mix AM, FM,and XM (if equipped).

To store presets:

1. PressO to turn the system on.

2. If viewing a map screen, pressthe source screen button, pressAUDIO, or press FAV (favorite).

3. Select the band.

4. Seek, scan, or tune to thedesired station, to select thestation.

5. Press and hold one of the presetscreen buttons for more thantwo seconds or until you heara beep.

6. Repeat the steps for eachpreset.

Digital Signal Processing (DSP)shown, Equalization similar

f (Sound Menu): Press thisknob or press MENU to access theSound menu to adjust the treble,midrange, bass, fade, balance,and equalization or Digital SignalProcessing (DSP), if equipped withthe Bose® sound system.

Setting the Tone

TREBLE: Press + or − to increaseor decrease the treble. If a station isweak or noisy, decrease the treble.

MID (Midrange): Press + or toincrease or decrease the midrange.

BASS: Press the + or − to increaseor decrease the bass.

Adjusting the Speakers

L/R (Left/Right) (Balance): Toadjust the balance between the leftand the right speakers, press andhold the L or R screen buttons.To center the balance and the fade,press the center, where the twolines meet.

Front/Rear (Fade): To adjust thefade between the front and the rearspeakers, press and hold the Frontor Rear screen buttons. To centerthe balance and the fade, press thecenter, where the two lines meet.

Automatic Equalization

If the system has automaticequalization, you can selectcustomized equalization settingsdesigned for Talk. Press the Talkscreen button to hear the changein sound. The system will savethe setting for each source.

To not use the automaticequalization setting, press any ofthe screen buttons that will changethe treble, midrange, bass, balance,or fade. This will take the systemout of the equalization setting sothat you can create your own sound.

Digital Signal Processing (DSP)

If the system has Digital SignalProcessing (DSP), it is used toprovide a choice of four differentlistening experiences. DSP can beused while listening to the audiosystem. The type of DSP selectedis displayed on the status line.

Select from the following DSPsettings:

Normal: Select to adjust the audioto be in normal mode. This providesthe best sound quality for all seatingpositions.

Surround (Centerpoint®): Selectto turn on Bose Centerpoint® signalprocessing circuitry. Centerpoint®

produces a full vehicle surroundsound listening experience from aCD, MP3/WMA, DVD, or XM stereodigital audio source and delivers fiveindependent audio channels fromthe conventional two channel stereorecordings. This is not available forAM or FM.

Driver: Select to adjust the audioto give the driver the best possiblesound quality.

Rear: Select to adjust the audioto give the rear seat occupants thebest possible sound quality.

The 2 CH and 5.1 CH buttons areavailable only when a 5.1 CH disc isavailable and RSA is off.

2 CH (Channel): Select to enhancesurround sound. The Surroundscreen button must be selected toselect the 2 CH screen button.

5.1 CH (Channel): Select whenlistening to a DVD, to give a fullaffect of surround sound listening.The Surround screen button mustbe selected to select the 5.1 CHscreen button.

Downmix: If a 5.1CH disc isplaying, and the 2 CH screen buttonis selected or RSA is turned on, thesystem will downmix the audio from5.1 CH to 2 CH if this feature issupported on the disc.

Radio Menu

Press MENU to enter the menuscreen, then press it repeatedly untilRadio is selected or press the Radioscreen button to make changes forradio information displayed or tolimit features while driving, numberof preset pages, XM categories, andAutomatic Volume Control or Bose®

AudioPilot®.

Additional Information Displayed

The navigation system may havethis feature.

Press 4 ( Additional InformationDisplayed) to turn station, channel,CD, and MP3 information on or off.

Press YES to receive information,when it is available, for thefollowing; FM: RDS category nameand radio text, XM: Song Title andArtist Name, CD: CD text, MP3: taginformation.

Press NO to receive no information.

Limit Features While Driving

The navigation system may havethis feature.

Remove/Add XM Categories

Press& (Remove/Add XMCategories) to remove or add XMcategories when selecting XMcategories from the category listscreen. The list of XM categorieswill appear on the screen. Use thearrows to scroll through the list.The categories to remove will behighlighted and the categories toadd will be dark in color. Press onthe category that you would like toadd or remove. Press Restore AllCategories to add all categories thathave been removed.

Automatic Volume Control orBose AudioPilot®

> Automatic Volume Control:With automatic volume control, youraudio system adjusts automaticallyto make up for road and wind noiseas you drive.

To use Automatic Volume Control:

1. Set the volume at the desiredlevel.

2. Press MENU to enter the menuscreen, then press it repeatedlyuntil Radio is selected or pressthe Radio screen button.

3. Press > to access the SpeedCompensated Volume screen.

4. Press the Low, Medium,or High screen buttons. Eachhigher setting allows for morecompensation at faster vehiclespeeds.

Then, as you drive, automaticvolume control automaticallyincreases the volume, as necessary,to overcome noise at any speed.The volume level should alwayssound the same to you as you drive.To turn automatic volume control off,press OFF.

Radio Data System (RDS)

The audio system has a RadioData System (RDS). RDS featuresare available for use only on FMstations that broadcast RDSinformation. With RDS, the radiocan do the following:. Seek to stations broadcasting

the selected type ofprogramming

. Receive announcementsconcerning local and nationalemergencies

. Display messages from radiostations

This system relies on receivingspecific information from thesestations and will only work whenthe information is available.In rare cases, a radio station maybroadcast incorrect information thatwill cause the radio features to workimproperly. If this happens, contactthe radio station.

The RDS system is always on.When information is broadcast fromthe FM station you are listening to,the station name or call letters willbe displayed on the audio screen.RDS may provide a program type(PTY) for current programming andthe name of the program beingbroadcasted.

Satellite Radio

XM™ Satellite Radio Service

XM™ is a satellite radio servicethat is based in the 48 contiguousUnited States and 10 Canadianprovinces. XM Satellite Radiohas a wide variety of programmingand commercial-free music,coast-to-coast, and in digital-qualitysound. During your trial or when yousubscribe, you will get unlimitedaccess to XM Radio Online forwhen you are not in the vehicle.

A service fee is required to receivethe XM service. For moreinformation, contact XM atwww.xmradio.com orcall 1-800-929-2100 in theU.S. and www.xmradio.ca orcall 1-877-438-9677 in Canada.

When XM™ is active, the channelname and number, song title, andartist will display on the screen.

Audio Players

CD/DVD Player

Playing an Audio CD

The player can be used for CD andMP3. If your vehicle has RSE, theplayer can be used for CD, MP3,DVD audio, and as a DVD videoplayer. See “Playing a DVD” later inthis section.

With the ignition on, insert a CDpartway into the slot, label side up.The player pulls it in and the CDshould begin playing. While playinga CD, the navigation system isavailable. If you insert a CD withthe system off and the ignition on,it starts to play.

When you insert a CD, the CD tabdisplays.

If you turn off the ignition or radiowith a CD in the player, it stays inthe player. When you turn on theignition or radio, the CD will startplaying where it stopped, if it wasthe last selected audio source.

As each new track starts to play,the track number appears on thedisplay.

The CD player can play the smaller8cm (3 inch) single CDs with anadapter ring. Full-size CDs and thesmaller CDs are loaded in the samemanner.

If an error appears on the display,see “CD/DVD Messages” later inthis section.

If viewing a map screen, press theCD screen button. The display splitsbetween the audio screen and themap screen. If you do not want toview a split screen or you are noton a map screen, press the AUDIO

control button, then press it againuntil CD is selected, or press the CDscreen button.

1. Press to pause the CD.This button will then changeto the play button.

Using an MP3 CD

MP3 Format

There are guidelines that must bemet, when creating an MP3 disc.If the guidelines are not met whenrecording a CD-R(W), the CDmay not play. The guidelines are(Supported Sampling rate and Bitrates will vary based on CD or DVDNavigation Systems):. Sampling rate: 8 kHz,

11.025 kHz, 12 kHz, 16 kHz,22.05 kHz, 24 kHz, 32 kHz, and44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz,96 kHz, 176.4 kHz, and192 kHz.

. Bit rates supported: 8, 16, 24,32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112,128, 160, 192, 224, 256, and320 kbps.

. ID3 tag information is displayedby the radio if it is available.The radio supports ID3 taginformation v1.0 or v1.1.The radio will display a filename,song name, artist name, albumname, and directory name.

. Maximum 32 characters,including spaces, in a file orfolder name.

. Maximum number of folders is253 with a maximum hierarchyof eight folders.

. Create a folder structure thatmakes it easy to find songswhile driving. Organize songsby albums using one folder foreach album. Each folder oralbum should contain 18 songsor less.

. It is recommended that there is amaximum of 192 files on a disc.

. The files can be recordedon a CD-R or CD-RW with amaximum capacity of 700MB.

. DVD with MP3 are not playableon this system.

Root Directory

The root directory will be treatedas a folder. If the root directoryhas compressed audio files, thedirectory will be displayed as ROOT.All files contained directly underthe root directory will be accessedprior to any root directory folders.However, playlists (Px) will alwaysbe accessed before root folders orfiles.

Empty Directory or Folder

If a root directory or a folder existssomewhere in the file structure thatcontains only folders/subfoldersand no compressed files directlybeneath them, the player advancesto the next folder in the file structurethat contains compressed audiofiles and the empty folder will notbe displayed or numbered.

No Folder

When the CD contains onlycompressed files, the files arelocated under the root folder. Thenext and previous folder functionshave no function on a CD that wasrecorded without folders or playlists.When displaying the name of thefolder the radio displays ROOT.

When the CD contains only playlistsand compressed audio files, but nofolders, all files are located underthe root folder. The left and rightarrows search playlists (Px) first andthen go to the root folder. When theradio displays the name of the folderthe radio displays ROOT.

Order of Play

Tracks are played in the followingorder:. Play begins from the first track in

the first playlist and continuessequentially through all tracksin each playlist. When the lasttrack of the last playlist hasplayed, play continues from thefirst track of the first playlist.

. If the CD does not contain anyplaylists, then play begins fromthe first track under the rootdirectory. When all tracks fromthe root directory have played,play continues from filesaccording to their numericallisting. After playing the lasttrack from the last folder, playbegins again at the first track ofthe first folder or root directory.

When play enters a new folder, thedisplay does not automatically showthe new folder name. The new trackname appears on the display.

File System and Naming

The song name that displays is thesong name contained in the ID3 tag.If the song name is not present inthe ID3 tag, then the radio displaysthe file name without the extension(such as .mp3) as the track name.

Track names longer than32 characters or four pages, areshortened. The display does notshow parts of words on the lastpage of text and the extension ofthe filename does not display.

Preprogrammed Playlists

Preprogrammed playlists whichwere created by WinAmp™,MusicMatch™, or Real Jukebox™software can be accessed.However, they cannot be edited.These playlists are treatedas special folders containingcompressed audio song files.

As each new track starts to play,the track number appears on thedisplay.

This feature will not operate on thenavigation screen unless the vehicleis in P (Park).

The Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE)video screen starts playback ofthe DVD when a DVD has beeninserted into the navigation system.See “Rear Seat EntertainmentSystem” in the Index of yourvehicle's owner manual for moreinformation.

The DVD player is only compatiblewith DVDs of the appropriate regioncode that is printed on the jacket ofmost DVDs.

The DVD slot is compatible withmost audio CDs, CD-R, CD-RW,DVD-Video, DVD-Audio,DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW mediaalong with MP3 and WMA“un-protected” formats.

There are three ways to playa DVD:. Once a DVD is inserted, the

system automatically starts playof the DVD.

. If you are on a map screen,press the DVD screen button.

. Press the AUDIO control button,then press the DVD screenbutton.

When a DVD is loaded in the DVDplayer, the rear seat operator canpower on the RSE video screen anduse the remote control to navigatethrough the DVD.

O (Power/Volume):

1. Press to turn the system onand off.

2. Turn to increase or decrease thevolume of the audio system.

3. Press and hold for morethan two seconds to turnthe navigation system, RSE,and RSA off.

If an error appears on the display,see “CD/DVD Messages” in thissection.

Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE)

If the Rear Seat Entertainment(RSE) video screen is playing aDVD movie and the ignition isturned to LOCK and then back toACCESSORY, RUN, or START,the RSE screen does not turn backon automatically. To view the movieon the RSE video screen:

. PressO located on the

remote control, then pressr,to continue the movie fromwhere it was stopped.

. Pressr screen button on thenavigation screen, to continuethe movie from where it wasstopped.

. Eject and replace the DVDmovie from the navigationsystem, which starts themovie from the beginning.

DVD Menu Options

Once a DVD starts to play, themenu options automaticallyappears. To display the menuchoices while a DVD is playing infull screen, press anywhere on thescreen.

There are three pages of menuoptions. Press the arrows to use allof the menu screen buttons. Menuoptions are available when they arehighlighted. Some menu options areonly available when the DVD is notplaying.

Full: Press to remove all menuoptions from the display. Pressanywhere on the screen to displaythe menu options.

Cursor: Press to access the cursormenu. The arrows and other cursoroptions allow you to navigate theDVD menu options. The cursormenu options are only availableif a DVD has a menu.

q,Q ,r ,R (Arrow Buttons):Use these arrow buttons to movearound the DVD menu.

Enter: Press to select thehighlighted option.

Return: Press to go back to theprevious DVD menu.

Back: Press to go back to the mainDVD display screen.

Move: Press to move the cursorbuttons back and forth from thebottom-right corner to the top-leftcorner of the screen.

j /r (Pause/Play): Press topause the DVD. This button willthen change to the play button.Press to play the DVD.

RANDOM:

1. Press to hear the tracks inrandom, rather than sequentialorder.

c (Stop):

[ (Forward): Press and hold toadvance rapidly through the scene,chapters, and titles. This button maynot work when the DVD is playingthe copyright information or thepreviews.

Top Menu: Press to display thefirst menu of the DVD. This buttonis not available on all DVDs.

Menu: Press to display the DVDmenu of the current area of the DVDthat is playing. This button is notavailable for DVD audio.

Search: Press to display the titlesearch screen. The keyboard allowsyou to type in the title number of thetitle that you would like to watch.

Setup: Press to display the DVDSetup screen. This button is onlyavailable when the DVD is notplaying. The DVD Setup screenallows you to change thebrightness, contrast, and mode,change the viewing on the monitor,and to change the initial settings;language, parental level, andaspect.

! (Brightness): Press thearrows to increase or decrease thebrightness of the navigation screen.

_ (Contrast): Press the arrows toincrease or decrease the contrast ofthe navigation screen.

Auto (Automatic): Pressthis button for the system toautomatically adjust the navigationscreen background depending onexterior lighting conditions.

Night: Press this button and thesystem makes the navigation screenbackground darken.

Day: Press this button and thesystem makes the navigation screenbackground brighten.

Monitor: From the DVD Setupscreen, press this button to adjustthe viewing angle of the DVD onthe navigation screen. This is notavailable on all DVDs.

Presse to close the screen in fromthe left and right sides.

PressJ to fill the screen on theleft and right sides.

Pressd to fill the screen on thetop and bottom.

Initial Settings: From the DVDSetup screen, press to changeaudio, subtitle, and menulanguages, parental level, andto view the aspect of the DVD.The movie must be stopped touse this menu. These settingsare not available on all DVDs.

Audio Language: Press English,Francais, or Espanol to change thelanguage that you are listening to.

Subtitle Language: Press English,Francais, or Espanol to change thelanguage of the subtitles.

Menu Language: Press English,Francais, or Espanol to change thelanguage of the menus.

Parental Level: Press to changethe rating level to only allow theplay of DVDs with a certain rating.The rating selection is 1 through 8,with 1 being a G rating. If the 1 isselected, any DVD with a ratingabove G will not be able to beviewed without entering a password.

When the parental level screen isfirst entered a keyboard appearson the display and a four-digitpassword needs to be created.Type in a password that you willbe able to remember. Once thepassword is created, you can thenselect a rating level.

If you would like to change therating level, press the ParentalLevel button, then press thePassword button. Type in thepassword and then change therating level.

If the password has been forgotten,contact your dealer.

This may not be available onall DVDs.

Aspect: Press to change theaspect ratio of the DVD. This maynot be available on all DVDs.

Audio:

1. Press to display the audiostream number and to changethe language heard.

2. Repeatedly press to togglethrough the available languages.This may not be available onall DVDs. This button is notavailable when the DVD isstopped.

Subtitle:

1. Press to play back the videowith subtitles.

2. Repeatedly press to togglethrough the available languages.

3. To turn the subtitles off, pressthis button until Off is selected.This button is not available whenthe DVD is stopped. This maynot be available on all DVDs.

Angle:

1. Press to adjust the viewingangle of the DVD.

2. Repeatedly press to togglethrough the angles. This buttonis not available when the DVDis stopped. This may not beavailable on all DVDs.

q Page: Press to go to theprevious scene. This button is notavailable when the DVD is stopped.This button is not available for DVDvideo.

CD/DVD Messages

If Disc Read Error appears onthe display and/or the CD/DVDcomes out, it could be for oneof the following reasons:. If a disc was inserted with an

invalid or unknown format.. If the disc is not from a correct

region.. If the map DVD disc was

installed into the CD slot.See “Installing the Map DVD”under Maps on page 43 formore information.

. It is very hot. When thetemperature returns to normal,the DVD should play.

. You are driving on a very roughroad. When the road becomessmoother, the CD/DVDshould play.

. The CD/DVD is dirty, scratched,wet, or upside down.

. The air is very humid. If so, waitabout an hour and try again.

. There may have been a problemwhile burning the CD/DVD.

. The label may be caught in theCD/DVD player.

If the CD/DVD is not playingcorrectly, for any other reason,try a known good CD/DVD.

If any error occurs repeatedly orif an error cannot be corrected,contact your dealer.

If playing recorded media such asa CD or DVD, the sound qualitymay be reduced due to CD or DVDquality, the method of recording, thequality of the music that has beenrecorded, recording speed, maxmedia recording speed, and the waythe CD or DVD has been handled.There may be an increase inskipping, difficulty in finding tracks,and/or difficulty in loading andejecting. If these problems occur,check the bottom surface of thedisc. If the surface is damaged,such as cracked, broken,or scratched, it will not play properly.

If the surface is soiled, see “Care ofYour CDs and DVDs” in the Index ofthe vehicle's owner manual.

If there is no apparent damage, try aknown good CD or DVD.

Notice: If a label is added to a CDor DVD, or more than one CD orDVD is inserted into the slot at atime, or an attempt is made toplay scratched or damaged CDsor DVDs, the player could bedamaged. While using the CDor DVD player, use only CDs orDVDs in good condition withoutany label, load one CD or DVD ata time, and keep the player andthe loading slot free of foreignmaterials, liquids, and debris.

Do not add any label to a CD orDVD, it could get caught in theplayer. If a CD or DVD is recordedon a personal computer and adescription label is needed, trylabeling the top of the recorded CDor DVD with a soft marker.

USB Host Support

The USB connector uses theUSB 2.0.

USB Supported Devices. USB flash sticks or pen drives.. Portable USB Hard Drives.

Special care needs to be takenrelated to the power sourceof these devices (USB buspowered vs. external power).

. Portable media adapters thatsupport SD Flash, CompactFlash, or SD Micro.

Depending on the USB massstorage device, some devices mightnot be recognized. The supportedfile formats for USB devices are.mp3 and .wma files.

Music can be played directly fromthe USB device and controlledthrough MP3 control functionsand menu.

Playing from USB

Content can also be played directlyfrom the USB device.

The USB port is located, dependingon the vehicle, in the center consoleor instrument panel in the APOconnection on the passenger side.

The USB icon displays when theUSB device connected.

To play a USB device:. Connect the USB and it begins

to play.. Press AUDIO until AUX tab is

selected, then press the USBscreen button. The audio sourceoptions under AUX menu willvary based on your Navigationmodel.

While the USB source is active,use the following to operate USBfunction:

k (Play/Pause): Press to start,pause, or resume play of the currentmedia source.

r (Seek/Forward):

r (Seek/Reverse):

1. Press to seek to the beginningof the current or previous track.If the track has been playingfor less than five seconds, theprevious track plays. If playinglonger than five seconds, thecurrent track restarts.

2. Press and hold to reversequickly through playback.

3. Release to return to playingspeed. Elapsed time displays.

TUNE: Turn to go to the next orprevious track.

USB Music Menu: See USB MusicMenu following for more information.

USB Music Menu

Once the USB has been connected,the main music menu appears.

Select any of the following buttonson the USB Music Menu:

Files/Folders/Playlists: Selectto view the playlists stored on theUSB. Select a folder/playlist toview a list of all songs in the folder/playlist. Select a song from the list.Once selected, Files/Folders/Playlists Mode displays. The playlistoption would only be available if thedevice has playlist.

To use the USB music menu:

1. Press on the center buttonto go to the main list menu.The system will start readingthe disc.

2. Once the disc has been readinto the system, press USB.

3. Press Files, Folders, or Playliststo show a list of songs stored onthe USB device.

Press the single scroll arrows onthe side of the screen to scrollthrough the list. Pressing the doublescroll arrows will scroll the list in10 percent increments.

Eject: Press when USB is to beremoved. A message displays tosafely remove it.

If the USB is disconnected withoutpressing Eject, the files couldbecome corrupted.

Video streaming or album art willnot be supported from the iPod.

For proper operation, make sure theiPod has the latest firmware fromApple®. iPod firmware can beupdated using the latest iTunes®

application.

To connect and control an iPod,connect one end of the standardiPod USB cable to the iPod's dockconnector. Connect the other end tothe USB port, located in the centerconsole.

iPod music information displayson the radio’s display and beginsplaying through the vehicle’s audiosystem.

The iPod battery rechargesautomatically while the ignitionis on or in the accessory position.When the ignition is turned off whilean iPod is connected using the iPodUSB cable, the iPod battery stopscharging and the iPod automaticallyturns off.

If the iPod is a model that is notsupported, it can still be listenedto in the vehicle by connecting itto the Auxiliary Input Jack using astandard 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) stereocable. See Auxiliary Devices onpage 41.

iPod Music Menu

Once the iPod has been connected,the main music menu appears.

Auxiliary DevicesThe navigation system has anauxiliary input jack located in theupper right corner of the faceplate.This is not an audio output; do notplug the headphone set into thefront auxiliary input jack. You canhowever, connect an external audiodevice such as an iPod, laptopcomputer, MP3 player, CD changer,or cassette tape player, etc. to theauxiliary input jack for use asanother source for audio listening.

Drivers are encouraged to setup any auxiliary device whilethe vehicle is in P (Park).See “Defensive Driving” in theIndex of your vehicle's ownermanual for more information ondriver distraction.

If the vehicle has rear audio/videoinput jacks, located in the rear of thecenter console, they can be usedas another source for audio/videolistening.

To use a portable audio player,connect a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) cableto the auxiliary input jack. When adevice is connected, the systemwill detect and automatically beginplaying audio from the device overthe vehicle's speakers.

If a device is connected and you arelistening to another source (FM, CD,MP3, etc.), press AUDIO then pressit repeatedly until AUX is selectedor press the AUX screen button.An auxiliary device must beconnected for the AUX screenbutton to appear as an option toselect or the vehicle must haverear auxiliary jacks. See “Rear SeatEntertainment System” in the Indexof your vehicle's owner manualfor more information on the rearauxiliary jacks.

Navigation

Using the NavigationSystemThis section presents basicinformation needed to operatethe navigation system.

Use the control buttons located onthe navigation system along withthe available touch-sensitive screenbuttons on the navigation screen tooperate the system. See “ControlButtons” for more information.

Once the vehicle is moving, variousfunctions will be disabled to reducedriver distractions.

Control Buttons

The following buttons are located onthe navigation system:

O (Power/Volume):

1. Press to turn the system onand off.

2. Turn increase or decrease thevolume to the audio system.

If your vehicle has the Rear SeatEntertainment (RSE) and Rear SeatAudio (RSA), press and hold formore than two seconds to turn offthe navigation system, the RSE,and RSA.

1. Press to access the Soundscreen to adjust bass, midrange,treble, and equalization or DigitalSignal Processing (DSP), if thevehicle has the Bose® soundsystem.

2. Turn to go to the next orprevious radio station. SeeAM-FM Radio on page 14 formore information.

Z (CD/DVD Eject): Press to ejectCDs or DVDs.

NAV (Navigation): Press to viewthe vehicle's current position on themap screen. Each press will cyclethrough Full Map and the tab thatdisplays the current audio source(AM, FM, CD, etc.). Full Mapdisplays the screen in full map view.

Selecting the audio tab splits thescreen between the map screen andthe current audio source screenmenu. See “Audio” under AM-FMRadio on page 14 for moreinformation.

DEST (Destination): Press toaccess the Destination Entry screento plan a destination or to changethe search area. See Destination onpage 65 for more information.

RPT (Navigation Repeat): Pressto repeat the last voice guidanceprompt.

FAV (Favorite): Press to accessthe preset stations. See “StoringRadio Station Presets” underAM-FM Radio on page 14 formore information.

Alpha-Numeric Keyboard

Letters of the alphabet, symbols,punctuation, and numbers, whenavailable, displays on the navigationscreen as an alpha or numerickeyboard. The alpha keyboarddisplays when the system requiresentry of a city or street name.

All characters are touch-sensitivescreen buttons. Press on acharacter to select it.

A-Y (Accent Alphabet): Select thisscreen button to select letters withaccent symbols. This button maytoggle to A-Z.

A-Z (Alphabet): Select this screenbutton to select letters from thealphabet. This button may toggleto A-Y.

0-9 (Numbers): Select this screenbutton to select numbers.

U (Space): Select the spacescreen button to enter a spacebetween characters or the wordsof a name.

q (Backspace): Select thebackspace screen button if anincorrect character has beenselected.

To make name selections easier,the system only highlights thecharacters that can follow the lastone entered. For example, if a Z isentered, a T may not be availablefor selection.

If a name does not display afterentry, it may need to be entereddifferently, the map DVD disc maynot contain that information, or thecorrect search area has not beenselected. See Database CoverageExplanations on page 81 for moreinformation or Destination onpage 65 to change the search area.

MapsThis section includes basicinformation needed to knowabout the map database.

Map Coverage

The maps are stored on a DVD.The 48 contiguous United States,along with Hawaii, Alaska, andportions of Canada are containedon one disc.

Refer to the “Navigation SystemMap Disc” manual to view a detailedexplanation of map coverage anddetailed city lists in each region.This manual will be in the map DVDcase when the vehicle is deliveredfrom the factory.

Installing the DVD Map Disc

When a DVD Map Disc is installed,noise from the disc may occur, thisis normal system operation.

The navigation system in thisvehicle uses a DVD to store mapinformation. When the system loadsdata from the disc, you may heara very slight buzz sound from thenavigation system. The sound issimilar to that of a CD playerseeking through different tracks.

This is normal operation and mayoccur more frequently with the useof XM NavTraffic.

Your dealer may have installed themap DVD. If the map DVD was notinstalled, do the following to load it:

1. Turn the ignition on.

2. PressO to turn the navigationsystem on or press the NAV,DEST, or MENU control button.If MENU is selected, press andhold until the Nav screen isactive, or press on the Nav tabmanually.

3. Press OK to agree to theCaution screen, if it appears.If the map is in split screenmode, you must push the Navscreen button to get the full mapscreen.

A. Map DVD Slot

4. Press Insert Map Disc.The screen tilts to accessthe map DVD slot.

5. Load the map DVD partway intothe slot. The system pulls it in.

6. Once the map DVD is loaded,press the Close screen button.The screen closes

7. Set the search area. See“Setting the Search Area” underUsing the Navigation System onpage 41 for more information.

Ejecting the DVD Map Disc

When the DVD map disc is notloaded, you will not be able to usethe navigation portion of the system.

1. Press the MENU control buttonto enter the Menu options, thenpress it repeatedly until Navis selected or press the Navscreen button.

2. Press Map DatabaseInformation.

3. Press the Change screen button.The screen tilts, exposing themap DVD slot and the map DVDejects. Pull the disc out.

4. Press the Close screen button.The screen closes.

Handling the DVD Map Disc

When handling the DVD map disc,be careful of the following:. Handle the disc very carefully

to avoid contamination or flaws.Signals may not read outproperly if the disc getscontaminated or flawed.

. If the disc gets soiled, use asoft cloth to gently wipe it outfrom the center of the discto the outside. Do not usephotographic record cleaner,solvents, or other cleaners.

. Do not use the disc to rest onwhile writing or drawing usingany writing utensil or attach aseal to any of the sides orthe disc.

. Do not keep the disc in directsunlight, high temperatures,or humidity.

. After using the disc, place itback into the original case.

DVD Map Disc Messages

If Disc Read Error appears on thedisplay and/or the disc comes out,it could be for one of the followingreasons:. If the map DVD disc was

installed into the audioCD/ video DVD slot.See “Installing DVD MapDisc” in this section.

. It is very hot. When thetemperature returns to normal,the disc should work.

. You are driving on a very roughroad. When the road becomessmoother, the disc should work.

. The disc is dirty, scratched, wet,or upside down.

. The air is very humid. If so, waitabout an hour and try again.

Map Adjustments

The system allows you to adjustthe scale of view on the map. Also,as you drive, the map will scrollautomatically based on the directionof travel.

Map Scales

V /U (Zoom In/Zoom Out):Press the zoom in or out screenbuttonsor the scale on the bar to changethe level of map detail. The scaleappears on the screen once thezoom in or zoom out screen buttonsare selected. The system adjuststhe map accordingly. The scale ofa map can range from 50m (150 ft)to 400 km (250 mi). To change fromEnglish or metric, see “DriverInformation Center, DIC Operationand Displays” in the Index of yourvehicle's owner manual.

Scrolling the Map

Press anywhere on the map screenand the scroll symbol appears. Usethis feature to scroll across the map.

Move your finger in any directionon the map screen and the mapcontinues to scroll in that directionuntil you remove your finger.

If scrolling while the vehicle is inP (Park), the system will scrollinitially at a slower rate. It increasesif you continue pressing on the mapscreen.

If scrolling while the vehicle is inmotion, you have one scroll speedand a limited distance to scroll.You have to keep pressing on themap screen to scroll for a longerdistance.

If you have used the scroll feature toscroll the map and the vehicle iconbecomes lost, press NAV to returnto the current vehicle location onthe map.

You can use the scroll featureon the map to set a destination.See “Pick from Map” underDestination on page 65 for moreinformation.

When scrolling on the map without aplanned route, press Go to calculatethe route from your current positionto the destination mark.

Navigation SymbolsThe following symbols are the mostcommon symbols that appear on amap screen.

The vehicle is shown as thissymbol. It indicates the currentposition and heading directionof the vehicle on the map.

The destination symbol appearson the map, after a route hasbeen planned, marking the finaldestination.

The waypoint symbol displays onthe map after a waypoint has beenadded to the route.

The waypoint symbol is numberedfrom one through three dependingon how many intermediatewaypoints have been set.

The distance to destination symbolindicates the distance to the finaldestination.

This symbol only appears whentime is not available or when youare scrolling on the map.

The distance and time to destinationsymbol indicates the distance andthe estimated time remaining to thefinal destination.

The straight line to distance symbolindicates the straight-line distanceto the destination.

This symbol appears before youstart driving on the route or if youare on a road where navigationguidance cannot be given.

The north up symbol indicates themap with North Up, known as NorthUp mode.

While in North Up mode, the vehicleicon follows the north directionon the map regardless of whichdirection the vehicle is traveling.Select this screen symbol to switchbetween North Up and Heading Upmodes.

The heading up symbol indicatesthe map with the vehicle traveldirection up, known as HeadingUp mode.

The shaded triangle indicates theNorth direction. While in HeadingUp mode, the direction the vehicleis traveling will always be at the topof the map screen. The vehicle iconalways heads in the direction thevehicle is traveling. Select thisscreen symbol to switch betweenHeading Up and North Up modes.

The No GPS symbol appears whenthe vehicle is not receiving a GlobalPositioning System (GPS) satellitesignal.

See Global Positioning System(GPS) on page 78 for moreinformation.

Select the Mark screen button tostore the location on the screen inyour address book.

The system automatically storesthe point in the address book. See“Adding Destinations to the AddressBook” under Destination on page 65for more information.

Displaying Points of Interest (POI)on the Map Screen

Select the POI screen button todisplay or delete POI icons fromthe map.

Displaying POI icons on themap let you know where POIs(i.e. restaurants, gas stations, etc.)are located. This screen appearsafter selecting the POI screenbutton.

Select one of the POI categories todisplay or to delete POI icons fromthe map screen. Once a categoryhas been selected, the POI icondisplays at the top of the screen.Five categories can be selectedto display on the map screen.When a category is selected thosePOI icons display on the map. Pressthe POI screen button again to addmore POI icons.

More: Select to view more POIcategories.

POI Close to: Once a category hasbeen selected, press this button todisplay the list of available POIs forthe selected POI categories. The listprovides the POI icon, the name,the direction, and the distance tothe POI from the vehicles currentposition. Use the scroll arrows tomove up and down the list. Usethe Sort by DIST. (distance), Icon,Name, and on Route as desired.

Go: Press this button, located nextto the desired POI, to make this POIa destination or a waypoint.

Add to Address Book: Press toadd this POI to the address book.See “Nav” under Navigation Menuon page 52 for information onediting address book entries.

Go: Press to make this POI adestination or a waypoint.

Call: Select to initiate a call usingthe OnStar Hands-Free system.The Call button is only available ifOnStar personal calling is activated.For more information about OnStarHands-Free Calling, see the OnStarOwner Guide.

Map: Press to display the mapshowing the location of the POI.

Show: Select to update the mapscreen and the list, once a categoryhas been selected.

List all Categories: Select to listall POIs sorted alphabetically.

Clear: To delete a category, do oneof the following:. Delete the last added POI

category, select the Clear screenbutton.

Driving on a Route

When a destination has been routedand you are driving on route, themap screen automatically displaysthe next maneuver.

This next maneuver pop-up displaysthe next maneuver direction andhow many miles or kilometers youare from it.

Dual Mode

The Dual Mode symbol displayswhen the screen is in dual mode.

Dual mode displays the route onhalf of the screen and a maneuveror Interstate Exit list on the otherhalf. The Interstate Exit list advisesof approaching exits. Press thisbutton to switch between dualscreen and full screen whichdisplays the entire route.

When approximately 0.08 km(1/2 mi) from the next maneuver,or two miles while on expressways,the screen displays the name and adetailed view of the next maneuver.

Press the dual mode button to hidethe detailed turn maneuver view forthis maneuver only.

Auto Reroute

When the destination is set andyou are off the planned route, thesystem automatically plans a newroute and begins to reroute. Thenew route becomes highlighted onthe screen.

Traveling Across Regions

If you plan to drive across manystates, you may have to changethe region selected to represent thearea you are traveling to. To changethe region:. Change the selected region

in the search area when youget closer to your destination.See Destination on page 65.

. Change the selected region inthe search area when enteringyour destination and routesettings. See Destination onpage 65.

For example, if you weretraveling from Michigan toFlorida, change the regioncurrently selected in thesearch area to Florida. Entera destination in Florida underthe Destination Entry menu.

Navigation Menu

Press the MENU control buttonto adjust several of the system'sfeatures and preferences. The lastselected menu screen is the screenthat displays; Sound, Radio, Nav(navigation), Display, or Time.

When the off-road mode isturned on, the navigation systemshows the path being traveledby the vehicle when not on amarked road. This path is asimulation since the mapdatabase coverage will nothave these roads on the DVD.This path is stored in thenavigation system's memory,see “Previous Destination”under Destination on page 65for more information.

Voice Prompt

> Voice Prompt: Press to changethe volume of the voice prompts orto turn the voice prompts on and off.

Voice Prompt Volume: Press +or − to increase or to decrease thevolume of the voice prompts.

Turn voice turn instruction: PressON or OFF to turn voice instructionson and off while traveling on aplanned route.

Route Preference

Press% (Route Preference) tochange route options when thesystem calculates a route.

Allow highway: Allows the systemto use major roads when calculatinga planned route.

Allow toll road: Allows the systemto use toll roads when calculating aplanned route.

Allow ferry: Allows the systemto use ferries when calculating aplanned route.

Allow time and seasonalrestricted road: Allows the systemto use time restricted and seasonalroads when calculating a plannedroute.

Edit Address Book

To edit the name of anaddress book:

1. Select the MENU control button.

To add or change the phone numberof an address book entry:

XM NavTraffic™(USA and Canada)

The vehicle's navigation systemmay have an XM NavTraffic™receiver. XM NavTraffic™ is asubscription service providedvia XM™ Satellite Radio. XMNavTraffic™ provides real-timetraffic information fully integratedto the navigation system to displaycurrent traffic conditions for adriver’s chosen route andsurrounding area. XM NavTraffic™allows drivers to make the mostinformed, timesaving routingdecisions.

If the Traffic screen button ispressed or if an attempt is madeto turn on the traffic display in theNavigation Setup Menu withouta subscription, a warning screendisplays indicating that XM trafficis not activated.

Three types of traffic information formajor roadways are displayed onthe navigation system:. Unscheduled traffic incident

data, such as accidents anddisabled vehicles

. Scheduled traffic incident data,such as road construction androad closures

. Traffic flow information (rate ofspeed data)

Turning XM NavTraffic™ Onand Off

To turn traffic on or off:

1. Press the MENU control button,then press it repeatedly until Navis selected or press the Navscreen button.

2. Press the Traffic Options button.

3. Press the Traffic button. Thisbutton is highlighted when it isactive.

Selecting Alert for ApproachingTraffic Events enables thesystem to show a pop-up screenthat notifies of possible trafficissues ahead.

When this feature is highlighted,while traveling on a route,accidents located on the routeare indicated and can beavoided.

Traffic Icon

The Traffic Icon appears on theTraffic Tab, next to the wordTraffic, when traffic is found inthe local area.

The Traffic Icon has three different condition displays. These are:

No XM NavTraffic™ subscription. No Traffic is found in the local area. The Traffic Feature is turned off.

Traffic events are in the area, but none are on route.

Locations and Information ofTraffic Conditions

The system may take some timeto sort the information. The list oftraffic conditions display in the orderof distance from the vehicle, at aminimum of approximately 16 mi(25 km). If traveling on a plannedroute, the list can be filtered to seetraffic conditions along the plannedroute. Not all traffic conditions maybe listed.

To view the traffic condition locationand information on the map:

1. Press NAV, then press itrepeatedly until Traffic isselected, or press the Trafficscreen button. A list of trafficconditions with the directionand distance from the vehicle'scurrent position displays.

2. Select a traffic condition to getmore detailed information of theevent.

Options

Select the Options screen button.A Traffic Options menu displays.Select the desired traffic relatedoption.

Traffic: Select to enable or disablethe traffic function.

Show Traffic ICONS: Select todisplay traffic icons on the mapscreen. This function allows whichtraffic information displays.

Traffic Flow Status — Use thisbutton to enable or disable thegreen, yellow, red and orangearrows shown beside the roadsand used to show the traffic flowor extent of a traffic event.. Black indicates a closed road

segment.. Red indicates significantly

impaired traffic flow with averagespeed less than 25 mph.

Closed Road, Traffic Delays,Incidents, and Advisories — Thesefour screen buttons are used to turnon and to show traffic event iconsthat appear on the map screens.

Traffic Event Display Categories

The following are traffic conditioncategories and symbols that canappear on the display:

q (Road Closed): Road and/orramps closed.

o / n (Stopped/Slow Traffic):Traffic stopped, stop and go traffic,delayed and congested traffic.

p (Alert): Object in the roadway,disabled vehicle, or dangerous roadconditions.

t (Accident): Roadway obstructeddue to accident.

s (Road Works): Delayed trafficdue to construction.

j (Road Condition): Delayed orstopped traffic, lane blocked orclosed due to a road condition.

k (Weather): Heavy rain, snow,or fog weather condition.

m (Parking): Availableparking area.

l (Information): Special event,general information, or warning.

Alert for Approaching TrafficEvents: When On, if anapproaching traffic event is withinthe alert range, one of two trafficalert pop-up screens display:. With no route planned, while

on expressways, ApproachingTraffic Event without Avoidscreen displays.

. With route planned, Traffic Eventon Route screen displays.

If the Alert for Approaching TrafficEvents is Off, the alert pop-upscreen does not display and novoice announcement whenapproaching traffic.

On-Route

Select the On Route screen buttonto display all events ahead on thecurrent active route. If no trafficevents have been reported on route,this list will be empty.

Avoid List

Press to show previously avoidedincidences. Select an incidenceto cancel it from being on theavoided list.

Scrolling to Traffic Events onthe Map

While scrolling the map, trafficcondition icons may appear.To receive information about thetraffic condition, place the crosshairs over the traffic condition icon.After selecting the Info (information)screen button, the type of trafficcondition, the street name, and adescription of the traffic conditiondisplays. There are different types of detailedtraffic event screens. Each screen isa variance of the one shown on theTraffic Event Screen.

Traffic Event Screen

The Traffic Event screen can bedisplayed by:. Scrolling to an event on the map

and then pressing Info.. Selecting a traffic event listed on

the Traffic Event List screen.. Selecting a traffic event listed on

the Traffic On Route Screen.

Back, Map, More, and Avoid

These buttons have commonfunctions across all three DetailedTraffic Event screens.

Back: Press to return to theprevious screen.

Map: Press to show the relatedtraffic event on the map. If selected,the Map Traffic Event Icon screendisplays.

More: Press to display more of thetraffic event description.

Avoid: This button is used to avoidthe location of an event on theroute. If selected, a new route iscalculated and the related trafficevent is avoided. After the newroute has been calculated, thenavigation system goes to thefull map screen and shows thenew route.

The Avoid button is only available ifthe route ahead and in the TrafficOn Route List.

Traffic Voice Prompts

If the voice prompts are on,whenever an Alert for ApproachingTraffic is displayed, the systemgives the related voice prompt.The content of the voice promptdepends on actual traffic event data.

The RPT (Repeat) control buttonis for navigation traffic maneuversonly. It is not used to repeat trafficprompts. During a traffic voiceprompt, if RPT is pressed, thecurrent prompt playback cancels.

Anything that cancels the Alert forApproaching Traffic, also cancelsthe related voice prompt.

Traffic prompts are disabled duringOnStar® or Voice Recognitionactivity.

Display

Press the MENU control button toenter the Menu options, then pressit repeatedly until Display is selectedor press the Display screen button.

Display Off

Press to turn the display off.Press any control button to viewthe display.

Brightness/Contrast/Mode

Press this screen button to changethe brightness, contrast, and modeof the display.

] (Brightness): Press + or − toincrease or decrease the brightnessof the screen.

_ (Contrast): Press + or − toincrease or decrease the contrast ofthe screen.

Auto (Automatic): Press so thesystem will automatically adjust thescreen background depending onexterior lighting conditions.

At night, the brightness can beadjusted with the vehicle dimmingknob near the headlamp switch.

Night: Press to make the mapbackground darker.

Day: Press to make the mapbackground brighter.

Setting the Clock

Press the MENU control buttonto enter the menu options, thenpress it repeatedly until the time isselected or press the time screenbutton, then press the Set screenbutton.

Hours: Press − or + to decrease orincrease the hours.

Minutes: Press − or + to decreaseor increase the minutes.

12/24 Format: Select the 12 screenbutton for standard time; select the24 screen button for military time.

DestinationPress the DEST control buttonto access the Destination Entryscreen. From this screen, selectfrom several options to plan a routeby entering destination points.

Search Area

The Destination Entry screenallows you to select the areaincluded in the search for yourdestination. A map that divides the48 contiguous United States, alongwith Hawaii, Alaska, and a part ofCanada into 14 regions is displayed.

Before selecting a method ofdestination entry, review thesearch area map to make sureyour destination is located in thehighlighted region.

Press the Change Search Areascreen button to view the SearchArea screen. Press the numberedscreen button to the left of thesearch area map that correspondswith the numbered region and toview a list of states included inthe region selected. The selectedarea highlights on the map. Pressthe down arrow to select CAN(Canada). Press the back screenbutton to return to the DestinationEntry screen and to store theselected region.

To enter a destination, choose fromone of the following destinationentry methods:

Address Entry

6 Address Entry: The addressentry destination method allowsyou to enter an address byproviding the system with a cityname or a street name.

If you are having trouble finding acity or a street name:. Input the street name first

instead of the city name, orvice versa.

. Input more characters or reducethe amount of characters toreduce or expand the availableoptions.

To enter a destination by enteringthe city name first:

The Point of Interest (POI)destination entry method allowsyou to select a destination fromthe POI list.

i Point of Interest: Press toaccess the Point of Interest (POI)screen. From this screen youhave two options to select/enter adestination; enter the name usingthe alpha keyboard or select acategory from the category list.

To use the point of interestdestination entry method byentering the name:

1. Press the DEST control button.

2. Selecti (Point of Interest).

3. Enter the POI name.

If five or fewer names areavailable, a list displays. If morethan five are available, therewill be a screen button witha number in it, it representsthe number of available POIs.Select this button to view the list.

The address book entry methodallows you to select a destination byselecting an address that has beenstored in your address book.

OnStar® Destination Download(if equipped) is a service availablefor OnStar* subscribers that makesoperating the navigation systemmuch simpler. It allows subscribersto request and receive navigationassistance on-the-go.

Using OnStar® DestinationDownload

Press the blue OnStar buttonand an Advisor can locate apoint-of-interest or an address anddownload the necessary informationor coordinates to the navigationsystem. Once the destination isdownloaded, the navigation systemsearches for the address in themapping disc's database. When theaddress is found, it is shown onyour navigation system's screenalong with the buttons describedbelow.

OnStar Download Screen. Select Go, the navigation

system calculates route(s).Select a route (i.e. ShortestRoute), and Start Guidance.

. Select the Map screen button,the navigation system displaysthe Destination Map Screen.

. Select the Call screen button,the navigation system initiates acall to your destination with yourBluetooth phone (if available)or OnStar Hands-Free Calling(if minutes are available).

If an OnStar destination isdownloaded while route guidanceis not active, the navigation systemdisplays an OnStar DestinationDownload Screen and operationscontinues as outlined in the UsingOnStar Destination Downloadsection:

If OnStar downloads a destinationwhile route guidance is alreadyactive, the navigation system addsthe downloaded destination as thenext waypoint in the existing route.All features such as Call and Add toAddress Book will be available forthe waypoint. . If the navigation system isturned off when the destinationdownload is attempted, thenavigation system automaticallyturns on and displays the OnStarDestination Download Screen.The radio remains on after thedownload occurs.

Getting Started on Your Route

Once you have entered adestination there are severalfunctions that can be performed.Press the DEST control button toaccess the Route screen.

Turn List

Turn List: Press to view the list ofturn maneuvers for the entire routeand to avoid turns on the route.

Q /R (Scroll Arrows): Press thearrows to scroll through the list ofmaneuvers.

Avoid: Press this button, locatednext to the adjacent street name, toavoid the maneuver.

The map screen displays. Select theFastest, Shortest, or Other screenbuttons. Press Start Guidance.The route re-calculates withoutthe selected avoided maneuver.

Avoid List: Press to cancel anavoided turn. The list of selectedavoided turns display. Select theturn to cancel the turn from beingavoided.

r (Route Preview): Press topreview the entire route in eitherdirection.

Detour

Detour: Select this button from theRoute screen, then select to detour1 km, 3 km, or 5 km (1 mile, 3 miles,or 5 miles) around the current route.You may also select to detourthe whole route if necessary.This option is only available whileyou are driving on your currentplanned route.

Voice Prompt

Select this button from the Routescreen to turn voice prompts on oroff and to change the volume ofvoice prompts. See “Nav” underNavigation Menu on page 52 formore information.

Add Waypoint

Add Waypoint: Select this buttonfrom the Route screen. This featureallows you to add up to threewaypoints to the current route,between your start point and finaldestination. Once a waypoint hasbeen added, the points can beedited or deleted.

To add a waypoint:

1. Press the DEST control button.

2. Select the Add Waypoint screenbutton. This button only appearsif a route has been calculated.

5. Select Start Guidance. You arenow ready to start the route.

6. To add the second and thirdwaypoints, press DEST, thenselect the Add screen button,where you would like the nextwaypoint to fall on the route.

7. Select the route preference(Fastest, Shortest, or Other).The system calculates andhighlights the route.

8. Select Start Guidance. You arenow ready to start the route.

To delete a waypoint from thecurrent route:

1. Press the DEST control button.

2. Select the Delete screen buttonfor the desired waypoint todelete.

3. The system displays a pop-upconfirmation message. ChooseYes to delete the waypoint;press No to cancel thisoperation.

4. Select the route preference(Fastest, Shortest, or Other).The system calculates andhighlights the route.

5. Select Start Guidance. You arenow ready to start the route.

Suspend Guidance

Press this button, from the Routescreen, to put the current routeon hold.

Resume Guidance

Press this button, from the Routescreen, to resume guidance on thecurrent route.

Cancel Guidance

Press this button, from the Routescreen, to cancel the current route.

Adding Destinations to theAddress Book

There are two ways to add adestination to the address book:. To add the current final

destination to the addressbook, press Mark from themap screen. The systemautomatically saves the finaldestination information in theaddress book.

. Press Add to AddressBook when available onPOI information screens,Destination Entry screens,or POI screens. The systemautomatically saves thisinformation in the address book.

See “Nav” under Navigation Menuon page 52 for information onediting address book entries.

Adding or Changing PresetDestinations

This feature allows you to addor change one of five presetdestinations. When a destinationhas been added as a presetdestination, it becomes available toselect from the Destination Entryscreen. See “Preset Destination”previously for information on howto select a preset destination as afinal destination.

To store the current final destinationas a preset destination:

1. Select Mark from the mapscreen to add the current finaldestination. The Address Bookscreen appears.

2. Select Name. Analpha-keyboard displays.Enter the name.

3. Press and hold one of thebuttons at the bottom ofthe screen until a pop-upconfirmation displays.

The name appears in that presetdestination screen button and isnow available to select from theDestination Entry screen.

To store an address book entry as apreset destination:

1. Select the MENU control button.

2. Select the Nav screen button orpress the MENU control buttonuntil the Nav screen button isselected or press the Navscreen button.

3. Select Edit/View.

4. Select the address book entrythat you would like to store asthe preset destination. Select theName screen button to add aname, if needed.

5. Press and hold one of thebuttons at the bottom ofthe screen until a pop-upconfirmation displays.

The name appears in the thatpreset destination screen buttonand is now available to selectfrom the Destination Entryscreen.

Global PositioningSystem (GPS)The navigation system determinesthe position of the vehicle by usingsatellite signals, various vehiclesignals, and map data.

At times, other interferences suchas the satellite condition, roadconfiguration, the condition of thevehicle and/or other circumstancescan interfere with the navigationsystem's ability to determine theaccurate position of the vehicle.

The GPS shows the current positionof the vehicle using signals sent bythe GPS Satellites of the UnitedStates Department of Defense.When the vehicle is not receivingsignals from the satellites, a symbolappears on the map screen. Referto Navigation Symbols on page 46.

This system may not be available orinterferences may occur if:. Signals are obstructed by tall

buildings, trees, large trucks,or a tunnel.

. Objects that are placed on top ofor near the instrument panel.

. Satellites are being repaired orimproved.

. After-market glass tinting hasbeen applied to the vehicle'swindshield.

Notice: Do not apply after-marketglass tinting to the vehicle'swindows. Glass tinting interfereswith the system's ability toreceive GPS signals and causesthe system to malfunction.The window might have to bereplaced to correct the problem.This would not be covered by thewarranty.

Vehicle PositioningAt times, the position of the vehicleon the map may be inaccurate dueto one or more of the followingreasons:. The road system has changed.. The vehicle is driving on slippery

road surfaces such as in sand,gravel, and/or snow.

. The vehicle is traveling onwinding roads.

. The vehicle is on a longstraight road.

. The vehicle is approaching a tallbuilding or a large vehicle.

. The surface streets run parallelto a freeway.

. The vehicle has just beentransferred by a vehicle carrieror a ferry.

. The current position calibrationis set incorrectly.

. The vehicle is traveling at highspeed.

. The vehicle changes directionsmore than once, or when thevehicle is turning on a turn tablein a parking lot.

. The vehicle is entering and/orexiting a parking lot, garage, or alot with a roof.

. The GPS signal is not received.

. A roof carrier is installed on yourvehicle.

. The vehicle is being driven withtire chains.

. The tires are replaced.

. The tire pressure for your tires isincorrect.

. The tires are worn.

. The first time the map DVD isinserted.

. The battery is disconnected forseveral days.

. The vehicle is driving in heavytraffic where driving is at lowspeeds, and the vehicle isstopped and started repeatedly.

. Automatic rerouting may displaya route returning to the setwaypoint if you are heading fora destination without passingthrough a set waypoint.

. The route prohibits the entry of avehicle due to a regulation bytime or season or any otherregulation which may be given.

. Some routes may not besearched.

. The route to the destination maynot be shown if there are newroads, if roads have recentlychanged, or if certain roadsare not listed on the map DVD.See Ordering Map DVDs onpage 80.

To recalibrate the vehicle's positionon the map, see your dealer.

If the System NeedsServiceIf the navigation system needsservice and the steps listed herehave been followed but there arestill problems, see your dealer forassistance.

Ordering Map DVDsThe map DVD in the vehicle isthe most up-to-date informationavailable when the vehicle wasproduced. The map DVD is updatedperiodically, provided that the mapinformation has changed.

For any questions about theoperation of the navigation systemor the update process, contactthe GM Nav Disc Center toll‐freephone number, 1‐877‐NAV‐DISC(1‐877‐628‐3472) or goto the center's website,www.gmnavdisc.com. For anyupdates or replacements, callthe GM Nav Disc Center or order anew disc online. Have the VehicleIdentification Number (VIN)available when ordering to ensurethe correct and most up-to-dateDVD map disc for the vehicle issent. See “Vehicle IdentificationNumber (VIN)” in the Index of thevehicle's owner manual for moreinformation.

After receiving the updateddisc, replace the old disc in thenavigation system. See “Installingthe DVD Map Disc” and “Ejectingthe DVD Map Disc” under Maps onpage 43. Dispose of the old disc toavoid confusion about which disc isthe most current.

Database CoverageExplanationsCoverage area depends upon themap detail available. Some areashave greater map detail than others.The navigation system works onlyas well as the information providedon the map disc. See Ordering MapDVDs on page 80 on how to obtainupdated map information.

Voice RecognitionThe navigation system's voicerecognition allows for hands-freeoperation of the navigation system,audio system, and OnStar®

features. The DVD map disc mustbe installed in the navigation systemfor voice recognition to work. See“Installing the DVD Map Disc” underMaps on page 43. Voice recognitioncan be used when the ignition is onor when Retained Accessory Power(RAP) is active. See “RetainedAccessory Power (RAP)” in theIndex of your vehicle's ownermanual for more information.

To use voice recognition:

1. Push and hold the SRCE(source) steering wheel controluntil you hear a beep. The audiosystem, if on, will mute.

2. Clearly state one of thecommands listed on thefollowing pages.

Helpful Hints for StatingCommands. When a multiple command is

available, choose the commandthat best works for you.

. Words that are in brackets areoptional. For example, for thecommand Radio [band] [select]FM, stating Radio FM or Radioselect FM are both validcommands.

. When the system recognizes thecommand the system will:

‐ either perform the function

‐ ask you to confirm your choiceby clearly stating “yes or no”

‐ issue an error messagesuch as “System does notrecognize this command” ordirect you to “Please startspeaking after the beep”

. If the system is not yet ready,the system may state “System ischecking the disc. Please wait.”.

. To cancel a command or if thesystem response does notmatch your verbal command,press and hold the talk symbolbutton. The system will reply,“System will cancel the voicerecognition”.

. If you experience difficultywith the system recognizinga command, try saying itmore softly, and wait for a fewseconds after the beep, or youmay just try saying it again.

. Background noise maycause voice commands tobe misunderstood, includingairflow noise from wind.

. To use the voice recognitionsystem, the map DVD must beloaded.

This system is able to recognizecommands in three differentlanguages. The system will onlyrecognize commands based onthe language selected from theDriver Information Center (DIC).See “Driver Information Center, DICVehicle Personalization” in the Indexof your vehicle's owner manual.

Voice Recognition Commands

The following list shows all of thevoice commands available for thenavigation system with a briefdescription of each. The commandsare listed with the optional wordsin brackets. To use the voicecommands, refer to the instructionslisted previously.

Voice Tag Commands

The following are voice tagcommands you can access byclearly stating the commandsexactly as they are written.You may have up to 40 voicetag entries for destinations.

Navigation go to [destination](voice tag), navigation select[destination] (voice tag): Thesecommands instruct the system toselect a destination saved underthe voice tag you have stored.

When a destination is requestedusing a voice tag, the system willstate, “Press or say cancel if notcorrect”. To cancel this voice tagdestination, using voice recognition,push and hold the SRCE button onthe steering wheel until you hear abeep, then say “cancel”. Cancelingvoice tag destination by voicerecognition, must be done withinfive seconds after the voice prompt.

If you are not currently driving on aroute, the system will automaticallycreate the voice tag destination asthe final destination. If you arecurrently driving on a route, thesystem will automatically create thevoice tag destination as a waypoint.Up to three waypoints can becreated.

From the address book entryinformation page, press theAdd Voice tag screen button.The system will respond “NamePlease?”.

Display Commands

Use the following display commandsto set the display mode.

Display [set] day [mode]: Sets thedisplay to daytime mode.

Display [set] night [mode]: Setsthe display to night mode.

Display [set] auto [mode]: Setsthe display to automatic mode.The system will change betweenday and night mode automatically.

System help: Instructs the systemto assist with display commands.

Radio Commands

The following are radio commandsyou can access by clearly statingthe commands exactly as they arewritten. The commands are onlyavailable when you are in one ofthe following audio modes, AM, FM,or XM™ (if equipped).

Radio: Instructs the system to turnthe audio system on.

Radio [band] [select] AM, radio[band] [select] FM, radio [band][select] XM, radio [band] [select]satellite: Instructs the system togo to either the AM, FM, or XM(if equipped).

Radio [select] (frequency) AM,radio [select] (frequency) FM:Instructs the system to go to aspecific frequency on either AMor FM.

Radio [select] (channel) XM, radio[select] (channel) satellite:Instructs the system to go to aspecific channel on the XM™ band(if equipped). The channel must bea valid channel or the system willkeep the radio at the current stationsetting. The system pauses whilesearching for the channel.

Radio help: Instructs the system toassist with radio commands.

CD Commands

The following are CD, MP3, andDVD commands that can beaccessed by clearly stating thecommands exactly as they arewritten.

CD, DVD, Disc: Select a CD, DVD,or disc that is currently loaded.

CD, DVD, Disc, [select] track (one,two, three, etc.): Instructs thesystem to select a specific tracknumber.
