Whyte’s are delighted to present a collection from the estate ofRobert Taylor Carson HRUA (1919-2008)

Robert Taylor Carson documented a well-travelled life in paint, from his early years in the belfastCollege of Art - where he studied under scholarship from the age of fourteen - to his timetravelling Ireland with his young family, and abroad to the United States and Europe. His subjectmatter is wide-ranging but an interest in people and their way of life is a common threadthroughout his oeuvre. In the mid 1940s Taylor Carson became an unofficial war artist capturingthe daily life of American troops based in northern Ireland. This endeavour led to significantportrait commissions in the US.

Numerous exhibitions of Taylor Carson’s work have taken place throughout Ireland and the UKas well as new york and Chicago. He was also a regular contributor to the Royal HibernianAcademy, dublin and the Royal Ulster Academy. Among his contemporaries and friends wereMaurice Canning Wilks and Rowel Friers with whom he travelled and painted from countiesdonegal to Kerry.
