Creative Block
Take a break. You can work on something
you enjoy. Remember that fanart you sketched ages ago andfailed to finish? Work on that
for the mean time. Who knows?Something might come into your
mind while you're blendingcolors for that skin tone.
Take notes.List down ideas, however distant thatis to your current project. Sometimes,
a great concept comes outof these lists.
Always bring yoursketchpad with you.Inspiration comes in dierent
places so be sure you have thetools to capture it when it does.
AProject
BProject
=Don't reproduce.Illustrator Alex Trochut said
" If you just try to reproducehow a good project happened in
the past, you'll never get thesame result".
You might be limiting yourselfwhen it's possible to do evenbetter than the last project
you did.
Spend some timewith yourself.
This is true even when you're notan artist. Going on for too long can
burn you out and deprive you ofmotivation. Have fun once in a
while so you can get your creativejuices working again.
Think outsidethe box.
This one seemed a bit clichedbut it works. When you receive theproject brief, try not to be so boundon it. Sometimes taking out just afew keywords can help you design
something that is natural, not forced.
Immerse yourself indesign styles that is
different from yours. When you have the block, you can't
do anything, even in the style you haveworked on for years. Try looking fordesign inspiration with a completely
dierent style with yours and youmight be surprised with the
ideas it induce.
Sleep.Honestly, get some sleep and restyour mind. There are times when
your subconscious can help whereour conscious mind can't. Just be
sure to list it down when youawake so you don't forget.
Go outside andenjoy nature.
Sometimes all it takes is a change ofscenery and you'll be your usual
creative self again. I'm sure they'renot lying when they said that nature
is the best source of inspiration!
Look at the problem ina different way.
Pretend you're someone else andtry to think how they will solve thisproblem if they are in your position. It might be you favorite illustrator,
or your favorite band, or evenyour mom. ;)
