#SkullsforMacyandAj

A mixed media art project created by Jaime Leigh Hebert

About #SkullsforMacyandAJYou may be surprised to learn I created this art project because of a custody case, but it’s true. In January 2016, my fiance & I went to court, hoping for joint custody of his 2 young daughters.

The Inspiration For This Project:

Why This Project?I learned a few days before the court date that their mom’s lawyer had pulled printouts of my art, my blog, my social media and other online information on me to use in court! At first, I was shocked and a little angry.

Since when was it okay to use a person’s creative expression against them?

After the anger faded, I decided to take this negative situation and turn it on it’s head. In the 50 days between that first court date and our next scheduled date, I challenged myself to paint 50 paintings in 50 days.

My Project

I Made My Project SocialEvery day I complete one 6x6 skull painting and post the daily painting to my blog and my Instagram.

I Created a Skull Character to FeatureBecause I love skulls and because it seemed my love of skulls was

going to be used to attack my character, I decided to paint 50 skull

paintings in 50 days.

My Skull Ended Up Being a Lot Like . . . MeMy first skull painting was completed on February 1, 2016. My 50th

will be completed on March 21, the day we go back to court.

Final ThoughtNo matter what happens with the court proceedings or my paintings, my main points were to show that something good can come out of even the darkest moments, that using a person’s creativity to attack their character is a shitty thing to do, and that sometimes, you can surprise even yourself with the amazing things you can do when you put your heart into it. #skullsforMacyandAJ#50skullsin50days
