Schoolboy Q – Hell of a Night

SFX - EyesHere schoolboy q’s eyes are hypnotised off the intoxicated drink he produced. This is a special editing effect used to show that the drink took effect. It is a close up shot which only includes his eyes and nose in the frame, this helps the viewers to concentrate on that feature.

Use of unusual and distorted imagesThis helps to reinforce the idea of the song, “hell of a night” implying that the night was very spontaneous and wild therefore this image of a person wearing a tiger mask exhibits the weirdness and rowdiness of the setting. Also because he is intoxicated off a number of drugs he is unable to tell whether something is real of fake.

Visual EffectsThe wavy visual here shows a man smiling however the smile is stretched. Again this shows that schoolboy q is high.

Slow Motion

The slow motion effect emphasises on the effect of the drugs he took. Here we can see a woman moving in slow motion making us feel the atmosphere of the party.

ReverseThe reverse effect fits in with the music as the chorus comes in and this is repeated 4 times throughout 2 shots. This epitomises the life of the party to be wild, fun and exciting.

Fast Cutting rateThe cutting rate increases during the repetitive, upbeat drum kick. It occasionally moves with the hit of the drum. This portrays the wildness of the party by showing different things all happening at once.

ColoursThe lights are different in various areas, they all add a mellow effect to the drug users, in this case there is schoolboy q who seems to present himself to be ‘out of his mind’ for real. The medium shot helps to show what is going on around him.

Mushroom PropThe mushroom props adds a humorous effect to the video, it also contributes to the desolate atmosphere.

ActingThe actions of the people in the party shows how chaotic the party can get, hence the name of the song being “Hell of a Night”. Here we can see that the man was punched in the gentiles for no reason and the culprit of the punch walks out to go dance.
