InspirationI think what inspires Sally Mann is her family and nature.

She has a series known as “Immediate Family” which is all pictures of her children and husband. She also has an album of photos from nature that are in her series “Mother Land: Recent Georgia and Virginia landscapes.” The photos in this series were taken in nature in the south which is her “homeland” since she was born in Virginia. Much of her early inspiration came from the south. Sally Mann’s pictures tend to be marked by scratches, light leaks and shifts in focus all of which are what she considers perfection. She doesn’t try to “fix” any of these images but rather prefers them the way they come out. This gives her a unique photographic style.
