A trailer is an advertisement for a feature film which will be exhibited in the future in cinemas. The term "trailer" comes from their having originally been shown at the end of a feature film screening

A common narrative consists of: Has a beginning, middle and end The Protagonists faces a problem they don't understand how to handle Tension is built quickly 3 act structure Fades to black that suggest a change in time

Shots conventionally used to establish character and setting through long shots as it allows us to understand the emotions which the character may be going through. For example in Lights Out when we see the boy ask the woman about what he sees, we understand that he is curious and slightly worried. When looking at location a long shot helps in telling us in where most of the movie is set and gives us an impression of if the place is going to be dark. The way in which the shots are used it allows to be in the characters footsteps for example is the shot seems unsteady it could portray they are nervous.

Transitions conventionally used to help in creating emotion, or showing a change of location. The transitions are also used in creating tension in between scenes for example when fading into black out to black. These transitions can help in intriguing the audience into this particular scene. In horror a popular transition tends to be black or a fade this is as it creates a sense of suspense and makes the audience wonder whats going to happen next. By creating tension it makes horror films even more effective resulting in better reviews and a better overall film.

Sound is very important in a trailer, especially the music this can result in manipulating our emotions, this can also help in creating a specific atmosphere. The voiceover helps in advertising as its a summary f the story. Using sound can help in creating tension and suspense to the scene this will therefore result in captivating the audience and having a more effective trailer in the end. When it comes to sound using no sounf could be a sound affect as it does add to the tension.

The resolution tends to be left out of the trailer as therefore the audience will know what is going to happen. This results in no hype for the film and possibly a waste of money as no one will want to see it knowing what happens.

The voiceover and text on screen will most likely feature the films USP. In modern films voice overs are used rarely as now days they tend to connect odd scenes to create a story line with suspemse which will keep the audience intrigued.
