Music Video Analysis #3

Love never felt so good Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake

Page 2: Mv#3

❖ This music video is a tribute to Michael Jackson and one of his unpublished songs before he died. Justin Timberlake was asked if he wanted to sing along with it, and the music video is rather special. There are lots of juxtapositions of footage that has been taken in the past, and Justin recreates some of his moves. Here you can see a silhouette of Justin, which I think gives him quite a classic sleek look.

❖ This is Michael dancing, Justin is then copying or re-creating his moves, which I think is really effective and something I would like to re-create if we were to use different era’s or generations.

❖ This image sequence shows the characters mimicking the lyrics of the song, which is really effective and helps the lyrics stand out and become more meaningful.

❖ Here you can see the performance element of the character, and as he is directly looking through the lens he breaks the 4th wall - connecting more to the audience.

❖ Overall I like the montage effective of this video, in this clip you can see him pointing, as if he is passing the baton across to the next part. It’s quite an effective transition used a lot, and makes this video have a more personal feel.
