Hamlet’s Incomprehensible Soul

William Shakespeare is the founder of the whole Universe of Art; he possessed an

incomparable imagination and savoir vivre. The plot of his well-known tragedy of

Hamlet, as well as practically all Shakespeare's works, is borrowed from the previous

literary tradition. We were not reached by Thomas Kidd tragedy named "Hamlet» that

was presented in London in 1589 but it is possible to assume that Shakespeare was

guided by it, giving his version of the story that was for the first time told in the Icelandic

chronicle of the XII century. Similarity of this story to Shakespearean “Hamlet” plot is

obvious, however Shakespeare's tragedy is developed in Denmark only according to

the name; its perspective is far beyond the revenge tragedy and types of characters

strongly differ from integral medieval characters. The first performance of “Hamlet” took

place in 1601 at Globus Theater, but it was a year of known shocks in the history of

England which directly mentioned both troupe of “Globe” and Shakespeare personally.

The matter was that 1601 was a year of The Essex Rebellion when the growing old

Elizabeth's young favorite, the columns Essex, brought the people to streets of London

in attempt to lift mutiny against the queen, but he was grabbed and decapitated.

Shakespeare is the greatest poet in the history of English and its greatest reformer; the

word of Shakespeare is fresh and capacious, and the tragedy "Hamlet" is powerful by

its unique style. Generally it is written by a blank verse, but in a number of scenes

characters speak prose. Furthermore, Shakespeare uses a lot of metaphors for creation

of the general atmosphere of the tragedy. Critics note presence of three groups of

keynotes. First, it is images of an illness, the ulcer sharpening a healthy organism —

speeches of all characters contain images of rotting, decomposition and the

disintegration. Secondly, images of female debauchery, fornication, the changeable

Fate, supporting a subject of female incorrectness passing through the tragedy and

tragedies at the same time indicating the main philosophical problem — the contrast

between visibility and true essence of the phenomenon. Thirdly, it is numerous images

of the weapon and the military equipment, connected with war and violence — they

emphasize the effective party of character of Hamlet in the tragedy.

The act of the tragedy begins in Elsinore, the castle of the Danish kings. Hamlet is the

same character as Don Quixote, “an eternal image” that arisen on the Renaissance

outcome practically at the same time with other characters of great individualists …
