Stickers

Page 3: Guide to street art mcr

• These are stickers that have been made by people and can be found placed all over Manchester mainly in street alleys.

• These stickers are created for many reasons such as people just do it out of boredom, trying to get a message across and can get many copies of the same things on many stickers to spread them around Manchester.

• Most of the time these stickers are made and placed in Manchester illegally as they are small scale and put up in alley ways, lampposts etc.

Posters

Page 5: Guide to street art mcr

• These are posters are posters that have been made by street artists and placed all over Manchester.

• They are usually created by street artists who want to show of their work, address issues that are political or social.

• I would class these posters as street art and graffiti because they aren’t permanent as they will be sooner or later washed away by the rain. Also most of the street art posters usually communicate messages across.

• However these posters are illegal street art as the person who has put them up wouldn’t have permission to put them up hence the reason they are place in the back alley ways.

Murals

Page 7: Guide to street art mcr

• These are murals that can be found dotted around the Northern Quarter in Manchester. The most iconic one out of them 3 is the mural of David Bowie found in Stevenage Square.

• This mural was made to pay tribute to the singer who passed away and the music he has produced over his career life.

• I would class this piece of work as street art because it is paying tribute to the passed away singer and is showing people that he was really good at what he did and that he was an inspiration for many people.

• This is a legal piece of street art as it was commissioned by Outhouse MCR who have commissioned many pieces of street art in the Northern Quarter.

Mosaic

Page 9: Guide to street art mcr

• These are Space Invaders and other characters made by using tiles and sticking them up. They have been created by Space Invader and can be found dotted around Manchester, however there's only very few of them.

• Space Invader created these because of how technology is advancing and that society these days is based on technology and games.

• I would class Space Invaders work as street art not graffiti because they are trying to communicate that society today is heavily based on technology and games.

• This street art is illegal as Space Invader didn’t get permission to put up his work around Manchester. He placed them in alley ways and high up on buildings so that they aren’t easily spotted and removed by the council.

Political

Page 11: Guide to street art mcr

• These are political murals that can be found in the Northern Quarter.

• The one that mainly stands is the one that was made to show the injustice after the death of Mike Brown who was innocently shot. A campaign was launched after the media used a image of Mike Brown looking like a gangster because he was black when actually he was a normal teenager achieving high in school and college.

• I would class this as street art because it is trying to communicate the injustice and racism that came after Mike Brown was shot.

• Even though the piece of work was made for the right cause, it is actually an illegally produced piece of street art as the creator didn’t have permission to make the piece of work.
